Hello Linda. Thomas & Grace were witnesses to my 3x g grandparents' marriage at St Ignatius Church, Preston 1843. John, my GGF also shoemaker & RC.  2 shoemakers called Thomas Battersby lived Preston then. 1841 they shared lodgings with (I think) "our" Tom's aunt, but that's just my hunch, based on other people in my ancestors' circle I researched recently. Don't think other Tom married. T&G lived near G's parents in 1851. They lived in same street as my ancestors later. This is just from memory. I need to check details but have to go out now. I will have more info. I only joined this last night.  Several of children may have died young & I think son was widowed young, then I "lost" him & his children & feared the worst. Check out Lancs BMD. Hope it is the same Thomas.  So glad to know they have descendants.  :)

Some ancestors of mine were called Lamb and lived at Ellel. I know it was a common name there.

Try Lancashire Family History & Heraldry Society. There's a list of what they have for sale on their website.
