Thank you so much for all of this wonderful information. I will have to do some more digging based on your help.

I have found that when researching Joseph that he has a tendency to go by Chambers, but his family (his children, particularly George) go by Chalmers.

Once again thank you so much for your time and research this family has been difficult to find,

Hannah.

Down / Joseph Chambers/Chalmers Marriage
« on: Friday 24 March 17 21:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm currently looking for the marriage of Joseph Chambers/Chalmers (b. abt. 1823 in Annahilt, Co. Down, Ireland) to Elizabeth Sloss (b. 1824 Old Cumnock, Ayrshire).

I have looked many times on the Scotland's People website using both Joseph and Elizabeth's names, but have not had any luck in finding the marriage.

Their first born child is George Chambers/Chalmers born in New Cumnock, Ayrshire in 1850.

I am not sure if the marriage is in Ireland or Scotland, but all of the records I have for Joseph are from Scotland; I have yet to find him in Ireland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,

Hannah.

I just downloaded both of the deaths of Joseph and Elizabeth Chambers as well as an 1851 Census which could potentially be Joseph working away from home as he is not on the census with his family at that time. On his death certificate, however, it does not appear that his son knew the names of Joseph's parents as they are not listed.

The 1851 Census has a married Joseph Chambers living in Annan, Dumfriesshire as a lodger and working as a mason's labourer.

Thank you all so much for the information; it has and will really help as I delve further into the Chalmers branch of my tree. I really appreciate it as I have been stuck for some time. As of right now I have George's marriage certificate and the 1951 census from Scotland's People. But I will definitely be looking for more on him and his family.

Again thank you so much :)

Ayrshire / George Chalmers 1847

I am finding it difficult to find any more information on a George Chalmers born around 1847 in Scotland. I found a marriage to Jane Sloan (born 15 May 1845 in Sorn, Ayrshire) which took place on 31 May 1869 in Sorn. They came to Canada soon after arriving in June 1869. I have a lot of information on the family after they are in Canada.

I was wondering if anyone else was researching George Chalmers and his family in Scotland. I do have a fair bit of information on Jane Sloan's family in Scotland, but George remains a mystery.

I have just now finally found his mother and father on a marriage registration  His father is Joseph and mother is Elizabeth.
