Northumberland / Re: Ann Robson born about 1815 Birtley
« on: Friday 05 November 21 19:37 GMT (UK)  »
Following on from Pennines post, Ann Robson is recorded as 42 in 1871, 56 in 1881 and 81 in 1901. Her year of birth is potentially anything between 1820 and 1829!

As far as I can see there is only one baptism in Birtley in this kind of time frame for an Ann Robson.

This baptism in 1822 does indeed have parents named as William and Ann, William being a pitman. ( This couple may have had an earlier child called Ann baptised in 1815 but there is a likely burial for her in Birtley in 1818 showing in the National Burial Index). This ties in with JenB's post above.

Of course the best way of pursuing this further is to obtain the marriage certificate for Nicholas and Ann.

( Also please note that the Birtley Bishop's Transcripts are one of a number of parishes/ chapelries which can only be accessed via the Family Search catalogue).

William

There is also a baptism of an Ann Robson in 1821 in Birtley, mother named as Ann but the Bts actually show her as Mary Robson!

Thank you William. This is really helpful. I think in all likelihood this is correct and makes complete sense

I have an Ann Robson on my tree born abt 1815 in Birtley to William Robson and Ann Parker.

What evidence do you have that she survived childhood?

If I have the right Ann she was baptised 15th October 1815,

There is a burial at Birtley on 20th June 1818 of an Ann Robson aged 2¾ years.

Unless, for some reason you've eliminated that burial, I would say it's a pretty good match.

Thank you Jen B, really helpful. I agree, the Ann I refer to born 1815 is likely the same Ann this burial is for

What sites gave you a date and place of marriage?
Surely the original documents ca be reached from there...

Pauline
Thank you. It was from someone else’s tree and research and they didn’t find the name of the father

Hello, hoping someone can help please.

I have an Ann Robson on my tree born abt 1815 in Birtley to William Robson and Ann Parker.

I am trying to find out if this could be the same Ann Robson who married a Nicholas Robson 6 Dec 1845 in Birtley. I was hoping there might be a marriage document that names her father, or perhaps the 1841 census might help.

Thanks, Christian

I did wonder if there was a link here?

Morpeth Herald, 9 Apr 1881
DEATHS
At Bigge's Main, 29th ult, aged 47, Ellen, widow of the late Mr Watson Richardson, deeply lamented.

Which Longhirst is it? There's one near Morpeth or Newcastle (have ruled out the Gateshead one). Bigge's Main Colliery was near Benton

Yes, this is Daniel Watson Richardson’s wife, Ellen.

The Longhirst is the one near Morpeth

Is this the possible Census link you needed confirmed via the marriage cert or other documentation?

1901 RG13  4832  40  27
Annie Wood, wife, age 32, born Benton
John William Wood, head, age 40, born Widdrington

1871 Census RG10  5125  37  7
Cross Row, Little Benton, Tynemouth
Daniel W Richardson, Head, age 33, Ag Lab, born Longhirst
Eleanor Richardson, wife, age 37, born Meldon?

The two youngest children are Ann, age 3 and Eleanor, age 1 - both born Long Benton

Thank you, yes, these are both the correct families. The birth place of Ann on both adds to the likelihood it is the same person

Is there any other way to confirm that Annie’s father was Daniel Watson Richardson, any other place the brides father is recorded?

Thanks

No, the transcript of the PR on Family Search says the same.

Thank you Boo

I attach a marriage certificate of Annie Richardson and John William Wood 21st March 1893 Longhirst.

It appears on the document that Annie’s fatter is Walter Richardson, Hind who is deceased.

I believe the first name is an error, and that the father is actually Daniel Watson Richardson (sometimes appears as Watson Richardson) who was born 13 Nov 1838 Killingworth and died before the 1881 census.

One of the witnesses to the marriage is Ellen Richardson who is my great grandmother, sister to Annie Richardson.

Is there any other way to confirm that Annie’s father was Daniel Watson Richardson, any other place the brides father is recorded?

Thanks

I can only find two children of William and Mary:-

BATY, MARGARET  EMILY mmn PROUDLOCK
GRO Reference: 1884  D Quarter in HEXHAM  Volume 10B  Page 322
Baptised in Thockrington, Northumberland, in 1884

BATY, ISAAC mmn PROUDLOCK
GRO Reference: 1883  S Quarter in HEXHAM  Volume 10B  Page 301
Baptised in Thockrington, Northumberland, in 1883

There was an Isaac with a brother named Thomas but children of Thomas and Mary Batey.

Trees on Ancestry have William as the son of Isaac and Barbara (nee Charlton), born in Swinburn in 1857
Baptised on 8 Mar 1857 in Chollerton

If the right family:-

1861
Swinburn Village, Colwell and Swinburn, Hexham
Isaac Baty Head 30 1831 Slater Birtley, Northumberland
Barbara Baty Wife 31 1830 - Birtley, Northumberland
