Hi Kiwirose.
My Dad was adopted in 1922 and grew up believing his parents had died in an automobile accident.
While doing his family tree (he died in 1971) we found he has his original birth certificate, looked up his biological parents marriage and death certs, shock horror his parents had lived until the 1940s. We then found he had three siblings and finally found an address for one of his brothers.
I wrote to him and explained what had happened and included dads a copy of Dads bc, and said to them that it must be an awful shock. I also said that I would understand if they wanted no contact and would honour their wishes. About a month later I got a letter and was elated that it was from them, we have now met up both in Scotland and here in England.
Write that letter, dont leave it too long as you never know whats around the corner, but also give them time to digest what you write.
Sorry its so long winded, but it shows we were in the same circumstance as you. If it were me iI would definately do it.
regards
Anner
