Northumberland / ARKLE, BROUGHTON, 1901 Census, Bothal Demesne, Northumberland
« on: Tuesday 06 July 10 07:17 BST (UK)  »
I would sincerely like to make contact with any descendants of Edward and Mary A. ARKLE, who on the 1901 UK Census were residing at 35 Fifth Row, Bothal Demesne, Northumberland.   Children Thomas and George were also included on the Census.   Mary WALKER, Mother of Mary ARKLE and John WALKER, Mary's Son were on it also.    I am particularly interested in John WALKER who I believe later changed his name to James BROUGHTON.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Jim

Hullo Wozzle,

Many thanks for your rapid response to my query regarding John WALKER.    I didn't have the information you sent me but I do have the information on the 1891 and 1901 Census.

I am hoping that a possible descendant from the ARKLE Family may be attracted to the request by me and submit some information on him after the 1901 Census.

Jim

John WALKER, born Ashington, c 1882 and son of George and Mary Ann on the 1901 UK Census was residing with Edward and Mary ARKLE at 35 Fifth Row, Bothal Demesne.

It appears that he just disappeared completely, because he cannot be found on successive Census.   Any information or suggestions will be greatfully accepted.

I must add that Mary A ARKLE was his sister and that his Mother, Mary A WALKER were living at 35 Fifth Row, also.

TIA, Jim in Queensland.

London and Middlesex / WILLSON Family of 309 Lower Road, Deptford - c 1914

I am seeking any members of the WILLSON Family shown on the 1911 UK Census as residing at the above address.

My reason is that James BROUGHTON a Merchant Seaman from the ship 'Corsican Prince' at about that time showed his next of kin residing at that address.

Do any of the WILLSON family recall James having lived there or having an association with any member of the Family.?

Thank you for correcting me Dave.   Sorry for the mistake Seaweed.    I am just too excited that you are both trying to assist me.   I'll just have to settle down and learn to read my 'postings' correctly.

Have done the research on James Towers, Dave, and he went in to the Canadian Army during World War 1.   I have his dossier from the Canadian Authorities, so he is 'out' of concern.    Thank you for your information though.   As a matter of interest Dave, I have been through most, if not all, of the J, Broughton's and WALKER's from that era and it is amazing the number that were in Workshops and other Children's Homes.   Quite a lot of Little B's' running around about then.   Makes it hard to pick them out in the UK Census because no Parents or Family Connections are shown.    For example, somewhere along the line my Mother told me that James Mother's Name was Mary WALKER and that Mary later, after James Birth, married a John BROUGHTON, hence the name change, and that he had a Sister, Doris and two of his Brothers were named Donald and Roy.   I have spent over ten years going through the 1891 and 1901 UK Census and can't find any reference to such a family.    Seems to me it may all be heresay.   I also have a couple of Birth Certificates which I thought may bear fruit, but nothing came of them, hence my idea of trying to find out about the numbers.
