Thank you for that information 'dobfarm'.   I can understand your reasoning regarding the second Christian Name.   I just took it for granted that the FreeBMD List was complete.   I'll follow your suggestion now and try to contact the Dewsbury Register Office.

Many thanks to the very kind persons who have responded to my query, suzard and avm228 in particular.

To Suzard :   To my knowledge James was never in the Royal Marines.   During World Wars 1 and 2 he was in the British and Australian Merchant Navies.   The 1901 UK Census that you have shown is the correct one.

To Avm 228:   Thank you for prompting me to correct the years of birth.    They should, of course, read :-
                           Doris         1885
                           James E    1887
                           Edward E  1889
                           Fred          1892
                           Ruth          1894.

Thanks for the info from FreeBMD.   I notice that there was also a James Edward born at Dewsbury about the same time.   'Drat it'.   Thanks also for the info about the 1911 UK Census.   I'll have a good look at that one

    Regards, Jim, in Australia

I am seeking information from anyone with Family or personal knowledge of the Family of Herbert and Frances Emma WALKER who resided in Dewsbury.   According to the 1901 Census Herbert was a Publican residing at 18 Victoria Crescent, Dewsbury Moor.   Other members of the family included :-

Frances Emma WALKER (nee EASTWOOD) born Halifax abt 1863
Doris                      "       born Dewsbury abt 1885
         James E                  "         "           "           "   1867
         Edward E               "          "           "           "   1869
         Fred                       "          "           "           "    1872
         Ruth M                   "          "           "           "    1874

Herbert was born in Dewsbury abt 1861 and died 1906, also in Dewsbury.

I am particularly interested in information on James E, regarding his second Christian Name and why I cannot find him on the 1911 UK Census.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Thanking you, in anticipation.   Jim

Hullo Robert,

Thank you for your reply to my query regarding Botany Bay.   The information you have given me on George BROUGHTON may be of some significant value and I'll certainly have a close look at it.

Thanks also for the information on the geographical layout of Ashington.   I had visions of lots of Coal Mines and Miner's Cottages in the area, but you have enlightened me somewhat.

Well, Well, posteria, you have certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons now, with your reply to my query.

Thank you very much for your observations.   Now I will have to regain my composure and start the research over again.   Similar to your opinion on the accent for Botany Bay the same could apply to Hirst Row, couldn't it.?   If the person with the accent said to the Purser taking down the residential address Hirst Row, it could easily be mistaken for Hirst Road.   Thank you again.    You have been a great help.

Regards, Jim

Hullo Peter and thank you for your reply to my query.    I am having quite a tussle trying to locate this most elusive person, mainly I suppose, because of his doubtful Birth particulars.

I posted the query hoping that, before everybody with any knowledge on him dies out, I might strike it lucky and find somebody who actually knew of him.    According to my parents he had eight brothers and sisters so I did hold a little hope.

Anyway, I'll keep plugging along, something may fall out of the skies one day.

Regards, Jim
