Lancashire / Re: Looking for Amelia Morgan abt 1843 Liverpool

Hi Mick,

Thanks for the reply. :)

You have done well to get this info whilst in Australia. I've also just been using the internet as I have two small children to run around after and no time to trip around the country, but it's amazing the things I've found out.

Amelia has been my biggest stumbling block. I didn't know about her brother James b.1837 Ireland.
My connection is through Agnes Catherine Cheshire nee Quinn b. abt 1877 Birmingham and her son Frank Cheshire b.1903.

Do you know where in Liverpool Amelia was born? I Can't find her birth in Liverpool or any where else with a mother called Mary from Ireland and would love to get hold of her birth certificate.
Do you have any further info on her father, was he also a Morgan and which part of Ireland were they from?

I haven't even started on John Quinn other than he was a blacksmith/striker b.abt 1841 or sometimes 1837 (with a name like that and from Ireland I don't know where to start) so if you have any further info I would be greatfull?

It would be interesting to know if you have the same French tale about Amelia as we have or any other family stories.

I have most info from 1861 to date and hopefully in a few weeks Amelia's Marriage cert to John Quinn, so if you any info from me just contact me. I'll try a PM to you, but have only sent one before so hope it works.

Regards

Phillippa

Hi Allan,

Thank you for the speedy response!  :)

I only have the birth place given on the all the census's which is always Liverpool except for the census image for 1861 which does say Lancaster Liverpool and the image is very clear. I used to live on a village near Blackburn years ago and even then Lancaster seemed alot further north to me than Liverpool.
I have tried searching again but nothing yet!!  :-\

Lancashire / Looking for Amelia Morgan abt 1843 Liverpool

Hi RootsChatters,

I think I'm finally going round the bend!!! :-\

Amelia Quinn nee Morgan b. abt 1843 Liverpool, is my GG Grandmother, I have found her back to the 1861 census, living with her Irish Mother Mary Morgan Wid. and possible son George Morgan abt 1860 in Great Bridge Stafford (have not found his birth) and a lodger in Old Cross Street Birmingham.

I have Amelia's marriage to John Quinn 1863 Birmingham (still waiting for the arrival of the certificate) and then all the following census dates, but I can not find, for the life of me, her birth in Liverpool abt 1843 give or take a few years or can not find any trace of her in the 1851 census. :-[

I have looked to see if her mother was married after her birth or could she have been born somewhere else? (I have tried looking in other parts of the country, no luck) I have checked her youngest son's birth certs and she is Amelia Quinn formerly Morgan. The family tale (there's always one!)  is that she was French and ran away with the groom, but all the census listings say she was born in Liverpool.

So I'm hoping someone may have come across her in their searches!!! :)

So here's waiting in anticipation. :) :) :)

Warwickshire / Andrews Grocers Shop Smethwick 1930's
« on: Thursday 16 February 06 11:10 GMT (UK)  »
Here's hoping someone can help!  :-\

I'm looking for any information about a Grocers shop in Smethwick possibly in Woodland Street run by a family called Andrews in 1930's-1940's.

I have no other information other than it was my Father's Grandparents and he visited it when he was a young boy. His name was Reg Bailey and the shop (I think) was on his maternal Grandmother's side. He sadly is no longer alive to share his memories and I would like to find missing puzzles to his life.

Thought I'd give it a try.

Many Thanks

Pipkim  :)

Hi OzzieJoan,

I know your first posting was a while back, but I'm reasonably new to Rootschat and when I came across your post I thought we may have some names in common.

Whilst searching last week I found my GG Grandfathers name of John Thomas and with a bit of digging around, found he was probably married to an Eliza Thomas nee KEEN. Marriage Qtr June 1855 Headington 3a 688.

In 1881 John Thomas was down as a General Labourer, His family were listed as:-
Eliza Thomas abt 1833 Wife
James Thomas abt 1856
John Thomas abt 1859
Eliza Thomas abt 1862
William Thomas abt 1864
Annie Thomas abt 1870
George Thomas  abt 1872
Joseph Thomas abt 1874

Their address was Magdn Road (may be short for Magdalen) Cowley, Oxfordshire.

It appears that at that time my G Grandfather, Benjamin Thomas who was abt 13 yrs in 1881 was boarding at the Clifton Certified Industrial School and that was why he was missing from the list. Also by this time Sarah was not mentioned either obviously due to her marriage.

Sorry if this duplicates any info you already have. If you have more info on Eliza Thomas nee KEEN I would love to hear it.

Warwickshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Help with Quinn
« on: Sunday 22 January 06 12:32 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks John for the 1871 info, I had the marriage down as a possibility. I didn't know about Daniel, he must not have survived through to 1881.

Thanks for the 2nd posting I had a feeling there was something about George. Amelia may not have met John Quinn as yet.

I'm off now to put the new info in to the puzzle.

Here's hoping someone may have family connections with me.

I'm looking for information about my GG Grandmother Amelia Quinn nee ???.
Amelia born abt 1842 and died may be 1904 in Birmingham,  married to John Quinn and according to the 1881 and 1901 census she had a minimum of 9 children and at those times lived in Birmingham, but both censuses say she was born in Liverpool.

Here lies a family story, Amelia was believed to have been born in wealthy family in France. She disgraced her family by running off with the groom from the stable, who was originally from Ireland. Amelia's husband John Quinn was a blacksmith (the closest I could get to a groom) and born in Ireland abt 1841.
The other story is Amelia taught my Grandfather the French National Anthem when he was a young boy (I'm not sure the dates match or that I believe the story).

Her children's names tie up with existing family knowledge, so I know I'm on the right lines, but I can't find her maiden name.

One of Amelia's daughters is my G Grandmother Agnes Catherine Cheshire nee Quinn. I can't find her birth, but the 1881 and 1901 censuses say it is in Birmingham, but that may be for convenience. Her marriage cert suggests she was born  abt 1878. I have ordered the birth cert of hopefully the youngest sibling of Agnes and hope Amelia's maiden name will be on there.

Sorry this is a bit wordy but I needed to put a bit of background down and I'm new to this.
