Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Fish Street, Whittlesey location?
« on: Thursday 31 May 18 22:20 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
My ancestor, Robert Giddings, whose obituary says he was a "well-known navigator," died in December 1831, residence said to be Fish Street, Whittlesey. I can't find this street, even on the 1841 tithe map.  Can anyone advise where it was situated, please?
Thanks, Carolyn

Buckinghamshire / Buckingham marriage c1714
« on: Sunday 27 August 17 00:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to confirm a marriage in the parish of Buckingham c1714 and wondered if anyone could kindly help me, please?   I am looking for the marriage of Richard Franklin and Mary Burley, who is said to be of Gawcott.  The person who sent me this information did not say if it mentioned Richard's parish.  I suspect they had a child baptized shortly afterwards in Buckingham, before they moved to Whaddon.  If anyone could help me confirm this information, I would be very grateful.
Thank you,
Carolyn

Lanarkshire / "Warrant not delivered" meaning
« on: Monday 28 March 16 20:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I downloaded this marriage from Scotland's People, but I am unsure what it means.
Central Glasgow
8th August 1824
Alexander McKenzie, mason in Glasgow and Janet Miller residing there
Warrant not delivered

I have read other posts on the general subject of irregular marriage in Scotland, but could someone please explain:
1)  Who would have delivered this warrant (did Sheriff's warrants apply before registration began?)
2)  Why would it not have been delivered?  Was it the couple's responsibility to pick the warrant up?Could this be an indication that the couple left Glasgow without picking up the warrant? Or could it be an indication that the marriage wasn't recognized?

Also, does the entry suggest that Janet lived in Glasgow but Alexander was only there temporarily?

Thanks,
Carolyn

« on: Thursday 24 March 16 03:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
Does anyone have access to St Mary's marriages (Leicester) who could do a look-up for me, please?  I am interested in the marriage of William Foxon and Jane Bennett, who married 11th May 1795.
Thanks

Leicestershire / Wills index at LRO
« on: Wednesday 23 March 16 04:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I wondered if anyone is planning to go to the Leics RO, who could do a quick look-up for me in the wills index, please?  I am hoping to locate a will for John Foxon (Foxton) some time after 1776, possibly in Leicester All Saints.  Also his son William, some time after 1803, possibly All Saints.  John and Mary raised their family in that parish in the 1770s, and William and Jane in the 1790s/1800s.
Thanks

Lincolnshire / Colsterworth marriage
« on: Saturday 20 February 16 01:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.
Does anyone have access to Colsterworth marriages for 1821, please?  Unfortunately, FindMyPast's digitized images do not include a marriage in which I have an interest, and the marriage index transcription does not state in which parish(es) the couple live.  The marriage I am interested in is this:
Colsterworth November 1821
John Hancock and Jane Foster

I'm wondering if there is a connection to Cosby, Leics or Desborough, Northants; the names of the witnesses; and whether John can sign his name
Thanks,
Carolyn

Armed Forces / Newbridge
« on: Wednesday 02 December 15 22:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
The 1881 census gives a birthplace of Newbridge Dublin for my ancestor, Eliza, the daughter of Alexander MacKenzie, a soldier.  Eliza was born c 1833-5. In Search of the Forlorn Hope lists Newbridge and Newbridge Barracks separately.  I have located Newbridge Barracks in County Kildare, but I cannot find any reference to anything other than the Newbridge Estate (Demesne) in the parish of Donabate in County Dublin.  I understand that Newbridge Barracks in Kildare gave rise to the town of Newbridge, so I would think it unlikely that Alexander's (unknown) regiment would be in the town, outside the Barracks, and the census does say Newbridge Dublin, not Newbridge Kildare.  Can anyone throw any light on this situation, please?
Thanks

Armed Forces / Uniform identification
« on: Saturday 07 November 15 21:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.
I am trying to identify the young man in the attached photograph, and it would help if I could recognize the uniform.  The cap badge may be identifiable to someone.  It looks a bit like a Royal Engineers service dress, but perhaps someone can confirm or negate this.
Thanks
