Hi John
Thank you for replying

William Harding b 1853
Married to Matilda Bond 4 August 1877 St Saviours, Southwark

Father John Henry Harding
All Iron Founders
Previous census lived at Webber Street

Matilda is living in Webber Strret in 1881 census with members of her family.

I haven't got a copy of his marriage cert, but got the date from Family Search.
When he was baptised his full name was William Worfield Harding, a name which doesn't show up again, but has shown as William W Harding on previous census.

His sister Alice was my gt grandmother.

Hope that helps.

Thanks again
Erika :)

London and Middlesex / Prisoner in 1881 Census

Hi

I've just found ( I think ) a relative in the 1881 census in Wandsworth Common prison.
He only married in 1877, so the offence must have been quite recent. Where can I look to find some information about the crime committed and length of sentence?
I have looked in 19th Century newspapers and Old Bailey records, but have had no success.

Would welcome your thoughts/ideas.

Thank you
Erika :)

Hi Borri

Thank you for your interest.
The family I'm looking for are Haynes. However their christian names are very common, William, Mary, Ann, Sarah.
I also have a Joseph who is the innkeeper at The Kings Arms in later census. He is the one who seems to be in Woodstock most of the time. However he married in London in 1854, but was back in Woodstock when his daughter was born in 1856.
I am waiting for some certificates to arrive, so may have some clues from them ;)

I have found some baptisms at Forest Hill, which I think could be the same family, but really need some definite proof.

Thanks for your offer
Cheers

Thank you for your kind offer of lookups :)

I am trying to sort out a family called Haynes, very common name unfortunately, especially with christian names of William, Sarah and Mary ::)

I have just sent for a couple of birth certs so I can find out mother's maiden name.
If I could get back to you when I've sorted out a few more details, your help may come in handy. I'll pm you.

Many thanks
Erika :)

Many thanks Carol, at least now I know I wasn't going completely mad not finding Woodstock!

What a shame though, so many people will have lost families because that census is missing.

Cheers
Erika :)
