World War One / Prisoner of War records on Geanologist Web Site
« on: Monday 14 August 17 11:36 BST (UK)  »
I'm currently research a Tom Brown from The Essex Regiment.

I know he was a prisoner of war, as I have a copy of the letter sent by the regiment on his release.  His records like many others are missing but from his medal cards I know he was in France in 1916.

He wasn't an officer, so would they have information on him?

Thanks

Shropshire Completed Look up Requests / Shrewsbury Births
« on: Sunday 11 June 17 16:24 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a birth for a PRICE in Shrewsbury c 1878.  On FREEBMD I'm not getting any births appearing for the period 1876-1878.

Births appear to stop in 1871 and restart 1935.  So if you were born in Shrewsbury between these dates where the births registered?

Thanks

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Look up - Baptism - Portsea
« on: Tuesday 11 November 14 17:15 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the baptism of George Henry Hanson born Dec 1862 in Portsea.  On his army enlistment records it states that he is a Roman Catholic.  I would like to find out if he was born one or converted.  Which church would have been the family local.

This might let me break down the brickwall of his father who changes his year of birth every census but his place of birth always remains the same.  I may have been looking in the wrong church records!

Essex Lookup Requests / St John's Tilbury
« on: Thursday 15 September 11 10:30 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a grave.  I know that he attended St John's Tilbury and died as a child.  The death certficate shows that he was still in the parish.   But the church has no graveyard and looking at historical photo's online it never did.  Where would he be burried? He died in 1911.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / DENT / TESSYAMAN - Brompton Upon Swale
« on: Wednesday 30 December 09 19:25 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry got my John & Williams confused.  Lots of William’s further down the tree.

So I have re written my problem, I hope it makes more sense.

I have William DENT born c 1832 Brompton Upon Swale according to a few census.  I tracked his wedding cert and it gave his father’s name as John DENT.

Searching the IGI I found a christening for a William DENT 9/6/1832 Brough Hall Catholic, Catterick.  With father John mother Jane.

Searching further I found a wedding of a Jane JESSYMAN to John DENT 28/10/1828 Easby on IGI.  (I decided that it was Tessyman as a child of William has Tessyman as his middle name).

On the 1841 Census there is a John DENT (age 50) living in Brompton with a daughter Maria (age 6) and Mary TESSY (age 36) but no wife.

On the 1851 census John (56) is still in Brompton this time he has Jane (age 51), Maria (age 16) and a grandson William Pearson.

I have also found a death of a Mary Tessyman in the same area and sent for her death cert.  Present at her death was Jane DENT.  Also say’s she was widow of John Tessyman, and that she was 93 at death which gives her a calculated birth of 1756.  I therefore believe that Jane’s parents were Mary & John.  I have also found christenings for a Mary, Isaac, Jane (date of birth is a over 5yrs diff from that calculated from 1851 census) and Ann to these parents on the IGI, but I can not find a marriage

I also collected William Pearson’s birth cert but his mother is a Tessyman not a Dent.  I then got William’s mother’s wedding cert.  Her father in not John Dent.  A name is given but I have to assume that her parents weren't married. So I can only assume that William Pearson’s grandmother was Jane Tessyman.

So I have all this information but I now need to go back to John and Jane’s parents.

So where would I find records for this area c 1740 – 1812.  Also as the wedding appears Catholic and I have found Christening’s in a Catholic Hall.  Would 1 or both of them have been Catholic?  The later family is C of E.
