Sorry got my John & Williams confused. Lots of William’s further down the tree.
So I have re written my problem, I hope it makes more sense.
I have William DENT born c 1832 Brompton Upon Swale according to a few census. I tracked his wedding cert and it gave his father’s name as John DENT.
Searching the IGI I found a christening for a William DENT 9/6/1832 Brough Hall Catholic, Catterick. With father John mother Jane.
Searching further I found a wedding of a Jane JESSYMAN to John DENT 28/10/1828 Easby on IGI. (I decided that it was Tessyman as a child of William has Tessyman as his middle name).
On the 1841 Census there is a John DENT (age 50) living in Brompton with a daughter Maria (age 6) and Mary TESSY (age 36) but no wife.
On the 1851 census John (56) is still in Brompton this time he has Jane (age 51), Maria (age 16) and a grandson William Pearson.
I have also found a death of a Mary Tessyman in the same area and sent for her death cert. Present at her death was Jane DENT. Also say’s she was widow of John Tessyman, and that she was 93 at death which gives her a calculated birth of 1756. I therefore believe that Jane’s parents were Mary & John. I have also found christenings for a Mary, Isaac, Jane (date of birth is a over 5yrs diff from that calculated from 1851 census) and Ann to these parents on the IGI, but I can not find a marriage
I also collected William Pearson’s birth cert but his mother is a Tessyman not a Dent. I then got William’s mother’s wedding cert. Her father in not John Dent. A name is given but I have to assume that her parents weren't married. So I can only assume that William Pearson’s grandmother was Jane Tessyman.
So I have all this information but I now need to go back to John and Jane’s parents.
So where would I find records for this area c 1740 – 1812. Also as the wedding appears Catholic and I have found Christening’s in a Catholic Hall. Would 1 or both of them have been Catholic? The later family is C of E.
