It seems to be a common thread in this family.
I mentioned that I believe I found my NEWSTEAD lot in Cromer. The family that intrigues me is:
William & Elizabeth NEWSTEAD. They had the following children all christened in Cromer:
Elizabeth, chr: 25 Sep 1763
Mary, chr: 25 Mar 1766
Sarah, chr: 22 Mar 1767
Martha, chr: 14 Mar 1772
bur: 17 Mar 1772
Susanna, chr: 14 Mar 1772
bur: 17 Mar 1772
Susanna, born 10 Jun 1773 & chr: 4 Jul 1773
William, chr 14 Jul 1776
James, born 13 May 1780 & chr: 15 May 1780
According to a census (I forget which one) James Newstead Boyce (who married Jemima WOODCOCK) was born in Cromer 1785.
The only christening record I've found that fits his age is James Newstead, illigitimate son of Mary Newstead, christened 4 Dec 1785 in Calthorpe.
I can NOT find a marriage for Mary Newstead to a Boyce. However, Mary's older sister Elizabeth married John BOICE 1 Feb 1786 in Cromer (they were living in Overstrand at the time of their marriage).
Elizabeth and John had a son, named him Newstead James BOYCE, born 29 Aug 1786 and christened 3 Sep 1786, in Cromer. So now I'm wondering if I've been barking up the wrong tree with this illegitimate son of Mary christened in Calthorpe, and my James Newstead Boyce is really Newstead James Boyce, s/o John and Elizabeth?
So technically, our family surname should be BOYCE instead of NEWSTEAD, but thanks to our Nathaniel, this is not the case.
Nathaniel owes me an appology, as he has made this journey across this particular branch quite difficult. (sigh)
