Ian,

Could be, it looked like Blashford, but ancestry transcribed it as Blackford!

Cheers

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Blackford Howe?
« on: Saturday 19 August 06 20:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have an ancestor Ann Faulkner who appears on the 1851 as Falkner, and her place of birth is listed as Blackford Howe.

Can anyone confirm whether this is / was in Ringwood please?

Many thanks

Many thanks for the information.  I'll take a look at the website this afternoon.

Also thanks for the offer of looking up their info.  I'm based in Milton Keynes so not much chance of getting down to Dorset myself.

If you ever need anything looking up in my neck of the woods, let me know.

Dorset / Austin and Griffen Families, Great Canford
« on: Thursday 20 July 06 09:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Looking for any information on the Dorset branch of my family tree!

GEORGE AUSTIN (born about 1809 in Ashington) married
ANN GRIFFEN (born 1814 in Corfe Mullen) in March 1831 in Great Canford.

I have found the family living in Great Canford in the 1841 and 1851 census, and then Ann living in Wimborne Minster (as a widow) in 1861.

Ann's parents were JOHN and SARAH GRIFFEN, but this is all I have so far.

Any information anyone can pass on would be most appreciated.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: George Cousens of Burghclere???

Many thanks for that info, nothing for George?

I guess that eliminates Berwick Basset as well so must be Burghclere. Hopefully someone can find it for me.

Fingers crossed!

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / George Cousens of Burghclere???
« on: Monday 03 July 06 10:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help me find another elusive relative?

I'm trying to find baptism records of GEORGE COUSENS born about 1845.  Herein lies my problem:

In the 1901 census it says he was born in Barrick, Wiltshire
In the 1891 census it says Wiltshire
In the 1881 census it says Newbury, Berkshire
In the 1871 census it says Newbury, Berkshire
In the 1861 census it says Burghclere, Hampshire
In the 1851 census it says Burghclere, Hampshire

So far I have obtained a certificate for a George Cousens in Newbury, Berkshire born around that time but it wasn't him.  I have also tried Wiltshire but no luck so far.

Does anyone have access to the Burghclere parish registers that could do a look up for me?

I have tried the Kingsclere website and can't find him on their either.

It appears that his family moved around a lot.  He has brothers that were born in Gloucester, more in Berwick Basset and finally a sister born in St Mary Extra.

His father was Richard Collier Cousens and his mother was Elizabeth Ann Digweed.

Many thanks in advance.

Andrea,

Not 100% sure they did! Thought it would be a good place to start seeing as the children were born there.  I have also posted the message on the Kent board as well to see if they were married around the Hawkhurst area.
