Thanks Christine,
I don't have FindMyPast but know someone who does so will ask them.
As for her father I know he died in 1959 so I will see what I get there although I am not sure if it will help find his daughter.

I have now purchased the relevant marriage certificate to satisfy my curiosity as I already know that the Annie who married was not my wife's aunt.

The marriage cert. shows both Annie & Arthur as age 23.
He was a Batchelor (Merchant Seaman), his father was Arthur Cable (Asphalt works foreman)
She was a spinster, fathers name George Bysouth (Bricklayer)
This gave her birth as 1907/8 but searching the BMD & GRO sites I could not see anybody born at that time although I did find an Annie Elizabeth Bysouth born 1904 in Prittlewell, Essex. Father Edward George Bysouth mother Mary Ann Fieldwick.
The 1911 census shows her living in Prittlewell with her parents & siblings. Father Edward George Bysouth (Bricklayer)
Has she shaved a couple of years from her age when she married Arthur (his age is correct), also has she dropped the Edward from her father's name ?
I cannot see them in the 1939 register but there is an Arthur James Cable (merchant seaman)who died at sea in 1940 age 33 which would be about right. His address is shown as Hadleigh, Essex.
Entered in red pen is N/K; wife Annie, 12 Kitchener road, London E17. (R.O.H.A.)
I am unable to find a remarriage or death for Annie from 1940 onwards so can anyone help.
I know she is not related but am curious to know what happened to her & if I have the right person.

He married Margaret Simpson (nee Adam) in 1835 so no information on marriage record & as far as I can tell they had no children. She was 15 years older than him & had 4 children from her previous marriage to George Simpson, the last one in 1829. Margaret was 45 when she married Alexander so probably too old for more children by then. I have also just found them in the 1841 census without children but another couple of Barclay's who were servants.

I should have mentioned that there is an entry for 13/11/1806 for Alexander.

I would appreciate some thoughts on the second husband of my 3 x great grandmother please.
Census records & death certificate show he was born abt. 1806/1807.
His death certificate shows his parents as Alexander Barclay & Elizabeth Weir, the witness was a neighbour James Ross.
I have looked on Scotland's people index for a birth around that time & there are 10 children born to Robert Barclay & Catherine Weir between 1801 & 1820.
My thoughts are this is correct & the neighbour was unsure of his parents first names.
Any thoughts please.

Sorry folks,
I never saw this reply in April. I normally get an email to say there has been a reply so don't know what went wrong.
I will look into this later on when I get an hour or 2.

Thanks

I did have the photo on the tree as Elizabeth White but removed it temporarily until I am a bit more certain.
Your comment about it being possibly an engagement photo or just after the marriage makes quite a bit of sense because photos were not a regular thing in those days & it also ties in with your original estimate for the time of the photo & her age.
I think I will add it to my tree with a provisio that it is not 100% certain.
Thanks for all your assistance

Thanks, so that ties up one side of the family but I am still none the wiser as to the photo of Elizabeth White (as I have called her).
She could very well be Ellen's mother even if there is no likeness or even possibly her husbands mother who we have no photos of at all.

That was my original thought that they were mother & daughter.
I will look out a photo of her father & send it to you.
