Dumfriesshire / Re: Batch numbers for family search?

Thanks Heather   ;D

That's fantastic! It's not where I found my KKD batches but I'll definitely be adding it to favourites.

Many, many thanks!

Dumfriesshire / Batch numbers for family search?
« on: Wednesday 28 June 06 23:47 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if there were any extracted records on Family Search for Dumfries

I was lucky enough to find someone listing all the batch numbers for births and marriages for Kirkcudbright which I've just been through page by page pulling out all the entries with names I'm interested in for future reference - took a while but I'm sure it'll come in handy at some stage  :)

I was hoping to do the same for Dumfries as I have even more family from there so I tried some fairly safe searches (William Smith! - who is actually a rellie) for different times but all I can find are member submitted records. I was hoping to pick up some batch numbers but no such luck.

Does anybody know if there are any?

Many thanks,

Debbie  :)

 :) Hi Sue

Thanks for the suggestions. I've made contact with some relatives I didn't know about in Carlisle so maybe one of them will be nice enough to have a look for me - fingers crossed!

Cheers, Deb

Annie Porter would make sense if it's the Girthon Jean

Hi Gadget  :)

I can't help you with Jean Carson, sorry but thought I'd just mention that I have a Nicholas (Nicky) Carson in my tree. She was born about 1879, married William Smith  and died December 1965 at The Lowes, Corsock.

At this stage I don't have many more details on her as I'm back on my English rellies while I wait for a letter from my cousin (Nicky's gr-daughter) in Gretna but if she is from your tree I can give you some details of her children. The family still live at The Lowes.

Good luck sorting out your Jean  :)

Cheers, Debbie

Cumberland / Carlisle - key to the city and prev. Mayors

Hi there

Just a general question as I have no dates yet and it's fairly recent but I've been told a relative, Ritson Graham,  was Mayor of Carlisle in the 1950's and also received the 'key to the city'. Is there a website where you can look up previous Mayors and people who received 'keys'?

I've searched google but haven't been able to find anything.

Many thanks

Debbie  :)

Ireland / Re: Does anybody know this placename?
« on: Friday 09 June 06 09:20 BST (UK)  »
I've just seen your PS.

I don't know that much about her but what there is I can tell you...

Born Ann McChrystal, parents William McChrystal and Ellen Gillogly, Died 1867 in Scotland aged 36 so date of birth will be around 1831.

I'm assuming the date on the photo, 18th May 1855, is the marriage date. Her husband was called Michael McKune. I'm guessing/assuming that he must be Irish as well as they've stuck with this spelling right up to today and it's not the Scottish spelling of it.

She had 6 kids (in such a short life!) but all were born in Scotland so I shouldn't think they'd be in any Irish records. The first I know of was born in 1857 so they must have left Ireland between May 1855 and 1867.

And that's it until I get my notes sorted. I've probably missed something as I have papers all ove the place  ::)

Many thanks, Debbie

HI Jap  :)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely have a look at those sites. As I mentioned, this is my first Irish relly so have no favourite sites yet!

I've also already come across a couple of variations - her parents are listed as McChrystal and Gillogly and then when she marries and moves over to Scotland she becomes a McChristie ::)

It does look like either Dou or Bou. I had a quick look through all the parish names on the Irish board here but nothing jumped out at me.

I've just spent a small fortune on scotspeople printing out all sorts of pages so I think I'll have to go through them with a finetooth comb and sort out my notes before I go looking or I'm going to miss something. There may be another page with clearer writing on it somewhere (fingers crossed).

Thanks again for the suggestions, much appreciated  :)

Ireland / Does anybody know this placename?

Hi there

I've just found my first Irish relative :D

Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about Ireland or placenames therein and wondered if anyone recognised what the name is in the picture.  Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated as I don't really know where to start looking. I'm only just getting used to searching the Scottish records and sites so I know I'm going to get really confused. Never mind, it all adds to the fun ay  ;D

Cheers, Debbie

Oops, just had a look at this - I don't know how to link picture so it shows in the message without having to download it, sorry  :-\
