Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Re: James WEAVERS - Baptism
« on: Thursday 30 November 06 21:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Mike

I've checked the Wetheringsett cum Brockford parish records for you and I can only find one James around the date you mention - a James, son of Joseph and Mary Weavers, dated 4th July 1800. Could this be your guy? I checked baptisms 1801-1820 then worked my way backward from 1801 and found him. If yours, there are other children of a Joseph and Mary if you want the details.

I also checked for marriages from 1820 - 1841 but no James. I did find Joseph, John, Wiliam, Henry and Joseph though if those names are of any interest to you!

If you have any other info or want anything else looking up, let me know :)

Debbie

I hope that's of some use to you. Not a lot of Leonard's are there  :-\ It could be worth looking up the Suffolk FHS as they do look-ups and could confirm some of the entries for you. I would also imagine they have much more experience at reading these old registers!

If you need any more, just let me know  :)

Cheers, Deb

Hi Esther  :)

Not a problem. I had a look for you this morning and got a bit carried away! I checked through the Births 1640 -1760 (before 1640 they're pretty much unreadable); Marriages 1600 - 1760 and Burials (or burrealls!) 1620 -1760. Some of the years are still pretty much hit and miss but I'll list what I managed to read for you.

Please note - as you probably already know early records are dated from April through to March the following year so the year is wrong for Jan - March. I've already altered the year on these records so you don't need to adjust them again  :)

I'll split into 2 posts as I don't know if there's a limit on message size.

1611 - Marr - Timothie Nune and Margaret Jessoppe - 30 Dec
1624 - Marr - John Edmunds and Anne Nun_ - 23 Oct

1647 - Bapt - Daneall, son of Daneall and Margrett Nunn - 9 Jan
1647 - Bur. - Margrett, dau of Daniell and Margrett Nunne - 12 May
1649 - Bapt - Robart, son of Daneall and Margrett Nunne - 30 Sept
1653 - Bapt - Mary, dau of Daneall and Margrett Nunn - Aparell (April I assume)
1656 - Bapt - Margrett, dau of Daniel and Margrett Nunn - BORN 23 Oct

1689 - Bur - Charity, wife of John Nunn buried in woollen - 7 Jan
1710 - Bur - Amy, wife of Robt Nunn buried in woollen - 25 Jan
1721 - Bur - Mary & Elizabeth, yr daughters of leonard and Mary Nunn b-in-w - 12 July
1723 - Bur - Leonard Nunn Snr OR Son buried in woollen - 25 Jan
1725 - Bur - Susan, wife of Rob Nunn buried in woollen - 9 Mar
1727 - Bur - Frances, wife of Robert Nunn buried in woollen - 9 April
1728 - Bur - Dorothy, wife of Rob Nunn Son or Sen buried in woollen - 19 Aug
1729 - Bur - Leonard Nunn of parish of Debenham buried in woollen - 2 Feb
1729 - Bur - Ama Nunn, widow, buried in woollen - 7 Oct

Okay, that's the first lot. Where I'm not sure I've written as it looks or the likely word. There seems to be a lot of Nunn wives buried but not many husbands! Still, it does give you another parish - Debenham - to look at if you haven't already. I'm not sure what 'buried in woollen' means, maybe a woollen shroud instead of a coffin? It could even say wooden at a stretch!

Hi Esther  ;)

Glad I could help you!  If there's anything else you want me to look up just let me know.

Do you think it could be possible that the first Joshua is your Leonard as well? I could look further back than 1675 for a Leonard birth if you like.  I know it would make him fairly old when he married Mary but I've just done a Scottish census for freecen and was amazed at how many young women marry old men! I guess there was a shortage of men in those days aye!

Anyway, let me know if you want anything else checking and good luck!

Cheers, Debbie

Hi Esther

I had a look for you this morning and this is what I've found so far....

Births - checked 1675 - 1729

1682 James son of Robert and Ame Nunn baptized July 30 (or maybe 3rd)
1686 Thomas son of Robt and Ame Nunn baptized Feb 6
1688 Sarah daughter of Robt and Ame Nunn baptized Sept 4 or 9
1690 Robert son of Robt and Ame (or Amd) Nunn Dec 16
1697 John son of Robert and Ame Nunn July 5

1694 Joshua son of Leonard Nunn baptized March 1

1716 Joshua yr son of Leonard and Mary Nunn bap Nov 11
1718 Mary yr daughter of Leonard and Mary Nunn bap March 16
1720 Elizabeth yr daughter of Leonard and Mary Nunn Nov 27
1722 Leonard son of Leonard and Mary Nunn bap Aug 19

Marriages - checked 1673 - 1720

1680 Robert Nunn and Ame Mortimer married May 11 or 13

1713 Leonard Nunn and Mary Nunn married Sept 21 or 24

That's all so far. I didn't want to get too carried away if these aren't the names you're after. The marriage in 1713 was definitely to a Mary Nunn, I checked the marriages around and they were recording the wife's surname at the time.

I also double-checked for the birth of Leonard from 1675 through to 1705 looking for both first and surnames thinking he may be the son of Robert and Ame but there was no Leonard recorded at all for that period.

If I can of any further help please let me know  :)

Cheers, Debbie

Hi Esther   :)

Any particular name?  I'll have a look for you and see what I can find but must warn you that a lot of the writing is unreadable the back you go.

I'll do my best for you!

Yorkshire (West Riding) / St Mary's on Tong Road, Wortley
« on: Friday 28 July 06 03:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi there

I'm trying to find some information about burials for services held at St Mary's (of Bethany) on Tong Road, Wortley.  I know the church itself was demolished back around the 1970's but my mum seems to remember that the cemetery part was either further up the road or over on the other side!

Would anybody know if this cemetery is still there and what it's called? Better still, if there is plot plan (?) available anywhere? I know some very generous, dedicated genealogists have done plans of some church graveyards but wouldn't know where to go about looking for one.

I'm going over to the UK for 3 weeks in September and hope to get up to the cemetery if it's still there to have a look around but mum remembers it as being very large - although she was only a child at the time and size is relevant aye!

Any info would be greatly appreciated - especially the name of it  :D

Many thanks

Debbie

Hi Andy  :D

Thanks for that, you're a sweetheart!  I'll have a bit of a dig and see if I can match the I Graham and Alan Graham at all.
I may be coming over to the UK for a couple of weeks soon and will try to get up to Carlisle to have a look. My husband's dad isn't very well so we're trying to get time off for a quick visit and hopefully I'll be able to sneak off for a few days to get up to Carlisle, Gretna and Dumfries with my camera, fingers crossed!

Your help is much appreciated, thank you.

Cheers, Debbie

Hi Andy

That would be much appreciated  :D

It was around the 1950's and also his brother was Mayor as well at some time so hopefully there would be 2 portraits of Grahams - although I don't know the name of his brother as yet or whether it was before or after Ritson.

Many thanks

Deb
