Family History Beginners Board / IGI help needed - sealed records?

I've only been doing my history for a few weeks and discovered the IGI last night. However, I found 3 entries for the name I was searching, different spelling and different sex! All 3 have the same date and place of birth.
One entry has parents names listed only but a film number to request through the family centre, which I've done today.
The other 2, same name but different sex, are both sealed records but under family have more details for the parents plus details of 2 brothers.
Can anybody explain to me why these records would be sealed and if there is any way to view them as they seem to contain more information.
I'm sure there's a simple explanation I just don't know what it is. I did ask at the family centre but didn't understand the reply - apart from that I have to become a member and that takes over a year!
