Australia / Traynor
« on: Friday 12 January 18 14:06 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information on my grandfather John J Traynor. John was born in County Cavan, Ireland around 1862 but spent some time in Liverpool, England, before joining the Royal Marines in 1881. On the 1891 English census he is shown as living in Widnes, England and married to Sarah with three children, Peter John b.1886, William b.1888 and Ann b.1890. The family then disappear completely until John turns up again in the UK in 1906.

We understand that John deserted from the Marines in Australia and spent the next seven years living in the bush from the late 1890's to early 1900's, before being captured and sent back to England in chains. We have no idea what happened to John's family and it has been suggested that they may have accompanied him to Australia and their descendants could still be living there.

I would be very grateful for any information on John and his family. Thanks  :)

Unfortunately I have no marriage records for Robert Nicholson senior and Mary Foley. Their first child, Bridget was born in 1868, so I assume they married around 1867. I believe that Robert Nicholson senior was born around 1840 and Mary Foley in 1847

Thanks, I believe that this is Robert Nicholson's and Mary Foley's son also called Robert who moved to the UK, but returned to Mooncoin and died of tuberculosis in 1904.

I am looking for information on the Foley family who lived in County Kilkenny in the early 19th Century. Mary Foley married Robert Nicholson around 1840 and is my great grandmother. I believe that her brother emigrated to Illinois, USA and his descendants may have moved to Canada and to Salt Lake City. Any information would be very welcome. Thanks  ;)

Found some more information on William Nicholson. He died in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales in September 1958 aged 66. I believe he had previously been employed as a steel worker. He may have had two daughters named Alice and Maisie
