Thank you Dr. Dude. I also think it says once, but was unsure.  It doesn't help that he wrote on the back of the last page of a letter to my Aunt in 1942 and of course the pages have started to bleed through.  Appreciate your help.

Forgot to mention this is a letter sent in July 1942 to my Aunt Hattie in Canada from the UK.  It was wartime and he was an enlisted man.  Sorry about that.

Norman V Smith sent his sister a couple of letters which I received when she died.  This letter is very clear but cannot read the PS in the back of the last page.  Can anyone help?

Hi  All

Just wanted to tell you that I finally found the information on this great grandfather.  It cmd form the Wick Carnegie Library in Scotland.  There was a write up about his drowning in 1857.

Want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2018.

I found found the following on Ursula Tulloch with Peter born i 1790''s:

https://bayanne.info/Shetland/getperson.php?personID=I65546&tree=ID1

It shows a Peter Tait b.1795 in Nesting, Shetland as her husband. Suggest you go to this site as it gives his and her parents, plus their children, some census information and info on their death dates.

Hi Scootch

Was aware of that site and its where most of my family information originated from.  Tony Gott runs the most wonderful site and its also free.

I looked up this family from GEorge and Barbara backwards and found one of Barbara's ancestors from the 1730's.  Can find very few before 1700 on any of the Shetland families but a few.  I also noted they had used the name changing system.  Now that DOES MAKE THINGS VERY DIFFICULT!!!

George Laurenson & Barbara had three girls.  One died about 2 years of age (probably born in either the U.S. or Shetland? but definitely died at aged 2 years in Tacoma, Wash. US. Not sure if the mother didn't accompany her husband there??"?

The other two were Ruby and Mary - the first one married a fellow with surname Patience with several surviving children shown and the other one married chap called Douglas Duthoit with one child shown.  (information taken from Bayanne site by Tony Gott).

Am still looking for any pictures of George & Barbara??  Thanks again for all your help.

First of all both George Laurensons were captains of ships. (I think).  George & Barbara had a son they called George William Laurenson who died in 1956.  I did know about the two sisters (think there were a couple more?) but maybe born in Shetland?

I did not know about George William marrying his brother's wife but will make a note of it.  Thank you so much.

Any idea where I might find a picture of any of them?
