Double clicking gave me what I got originally which was a "you cannot access this site, blah blah" :-\

Being a complete "dummie", did what Microsoft Technical Staff told me to do to rectify another problem on my system thus removed cookies and history as instructed.  Still don't know what the numbers mean - obviously code for the site.  Double clicking does not give me the URL.  Thanks for your comments. Hope your migraine is some better.  Lauraine

Bob:  Thank you - not the site - looking for Canadian census info.  1901 on-line, but info on 1871,1881 and 1891 more difficult to find.

Now for Hackstaple:  So sorry about your migraine.  Did know where the history button was.  Am a clueless old babe, but had that much info - had enough sense to purchase XP for Dummies.  No computer shop involved in my problem, but rather on-line Technical Assistance from Microsoft.  It would seem that my attempt to get into this site was made after erasing the history info and did find it.  You sound very clever and like one of those gurus.  Perhaps you can tell me what the history notation means?

130.15.161.100   Census  Thanks a heap from clueless in Canada.  Lauraine ;D

Thanks but there is a big problem.   Had trouble posting to another site and on the advice of Microsoft technical support removed all my cookies and history trying to rectify it.  Just thought whoever posted it might recall - know it started with gen and presume I should have put the http, etc. in when entering.

Am awaiting further instructions from Microsoft on the latest glitch - something wrong with Mssg 6 exe. file so after removing cookies and history, rest of instructions did not work.  Go figure  GRR Grrowl

I run PC-cillan (very latest version with updates) as a virus scan and not sure that Microsoft likes that either.

As to browser - no idea.  Microsoft tried to make us Cdns. use "sympatico".  I hated it so went to a local firm to open to.  All problems seem to stem from that.  I am paranoid over this - keep thinking the people who run the browsers are trying to control me and make me do what they want - not what I want.  Think my browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer - just not sure anymore. Silly woman.   Lauraine

Technical Help / Lost site

Not sure where to post this?  Last night (very late) saw a site for looking up 1881 or 1871 census informtion in Canada. on a Roots mssg board (not sure which one now). Did not jot it down, but tried to go to it.  Got lost and refused entry.  It was about 2 a.m. so just retired in disgust.  Can anyone help me with finding this site again or do they know the site?

I know - not the brightest at this end.  HELP  Lauraine

Dear Hackstaple:

Thx for your reply - realized that point.  Nearest place is in Winnipeg and am aware of it.  Dilema is am presently primary care giver for 92 year old father. .  Hv 4 hours off with Day Home Care each week, - would not give me enough time to do this going to Wpg. and back.  Any one have other suggestions.?  My next day off will be spent in Portage and plan to visit local library and archives there.  Perhaps they could bring in a fiche of the 1981 census. from Archives Canada?   Marquette, Westbourne would fall into Portage area (I think).  Will be making a trip to the cemetary for this area with camera (known as Westbourne Cemetary) so if anyone needs a pic, let me know.

While asking questions, has anyone had any experience dealing with the Hudson Bay Archives?  Any advice about approaching them for information. gratefully rcvd.  This man and my G.Grandfather were both surveyors for the Hudson Bay Company.  My G. Grandfather married one (?) of Albright's daughters, Elizabeth  - thus she is my G. Grandmother.   Guess that makes George Albright my GG Grandfather.  This George Albright was born in Ireland. - oh well one step at a time - so many George Albrights and until I get more info than a birth year, will be mind boggling problem.   Thx.  Lauraine

Trying to discover how to look up FHL film 1375919, N film Number C-13283, District 186, sub-district B, Page number 15, Household number 76.  Live in Canada, where or how do I go further to view the household.  Cannot seem to find the 1881 census information for Manitoba other than as above.  Maybe Meh can give me a hint what to do next.  Thanks  Lauraine

Never thought of "Selina" or nickname for it.  That would fit.  Selina was a very popular Southern US name.  Of course Lena was more used in in 1900's.   Just thought it unusual for that time frame and the other names are so standard.   Is there someone who studied scripts in the group? :)
