Lancashire Lookup Requests / Our Family's Lancashire Brickwall ???
« on: Sunday 01 December 19 21:10 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for looking at my request,
I have found myself in what you might call perhaps a very uncomfortable situation.

All through my research I have found the records of what I have seen in front of me to be " misleading "
I have always had to doubt my finding' s as to whether if I was going in / on the right route. I have had a choice of a certain specific ancestor to be one of two ancestors of the same name,( Father / Son actually of my G.G.G. ?? ) in/at a certain time of my Family History??.
I have now acquired a certain record info. that points to being the younger person.
There is no marriage record of my Great, Great, Grandmother and who was my G/ G Grandfather, and there is no birth record of their first son born, but there is a birth record / certificate of there second child, and of who the Father is ???.
My G / G Grandmother does eventually get to marry, and give her children the surname of / into the family of who was the Father. Albeit she marries the Father's younger Brother.???

The actual Father took a twenty year Army career to avoid any confrontation ???
He started this when the first born was 5 years old??

He had his Army career ended through war wounds /  health reasons??, and this was not long after the Mother had Married his younger Brother???

From his 20 year Army career, my found Great Great Grandfather re-married. ???

It comes to the situation that I have found myself in.

A Son of this Marriage eventually becomes married to a South African and has become a immigrant to South Africa and has further Family there, in the 1880's ???

A further descendant has contacted me from South Africa enquiring into if I have any knowledge regarding my ( our ) G / G  Grandfather ???
Since his contact with me in my research I have always wanted to find something that would totally disconnect us, but have not been able to. There is only one more avenue/line left for me to find the answer to.
If the records hold / what I want available are available after all the time that has passed since / from the 1850's 1860's ?????
Just how/ do /can I explain of the findings that I have found regarding my ( our ) G / G Grandfather's illegitimate children that happened 20 plus years before my / our G / G Grandfather started his side of the family???

Able to help.??? Look forward to your suggestions,JUST J.

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to read my request.

I have  a photocopy of a 1791, St.Luke's, Old Street,London, Tax Record.
Which possibly / could be is for one of my ancestors?? a John Wentzell.??

My J.W. from 1841 Census - Has JOHN WENTZELL Aged 60, born 1780 (1775 - 1785 ??)
(My JOHN WENTZELL Marries HANNAH BERRY  22/06/1811 )
1841 Census has JOHN WENTZELL being born of Foreign Origin.
I have no other documentation of J.W. any earlier than this.
Advice / Help is needed on how to proceed around the time and further back of the Land Tax Records of 1791?, Where the Tax Records for around that time are held also?
Any assistance much appreciated,  Regards Just J

Family History Beginners Board / Search re- 1861 /1851 Censuses
« on: Thursday 21 November 19 13:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm not sure on for what I am asking can actually be achieved.
My ancestor on the 1861 Census has supposedly remarried and acquired three Step-Children.
He we believe was a Widower sometime before the 1861 Census was taken.
We have not found a Marriage with / of his Partner as on the 1861 Census.
I would like information of how to search the address of the 1861, back on the 1851 Census, if it's possible?.The address to be searched 1, Chelmsford Terrace, Paddington.

The 1861 Census ref  is R.G. 9. /  6 -- Page No. 30.
Paddington Parish, Municipal Ward 2, Borough of Marylebone, Ecclesiastical District is St. Saviours. The christian name's and age's of the people that I am interested in are ELIZABETH snr, ELIZABETH jnr,RICHARD and ELLEN as these are the Stepchildren to my Ancestor as the 1861 Census. My Ancestor, the head of household is JAMES WENTZELL age 44 as to the 1861 Census.
Any help on the above much appreciated.

The Common Room / Nova Scotia emigrant to England 1780 - 1800 ??
« on: Wednesday 20 March 19 09:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
Hoping to reach someone who has similar findings and were able to research into  Nova Scotia results. Any information would be much appreciated.

In my research I have an ancestor on the 1841 census as of being of Foreign origin.
The name of Wentzell is on my Mother's side of the family.
My family / families have always assumed with the Wentzell name their was definitely a foreign connectIon, and we have always thought of it being a European one.
As I have mentioned we found our ancestor entered on the 1841 census as of a ( F ) Foreign country. This is the only census with our ancestor on as he has died in 1844.
He married in the year of 1811. In the marriage, he and his wife produce four children between the years of 1811 and 1830. There is nothing more found within our family of his arrival etc. into England, and we are just wondering if there is anywhere, where would be able to research into the Nova Scotia finding.
With and in our / my research I / We have come across on a Rootsweb site a full same named ancestor born very, very close to the exact year of our ancestors birth born in Nova Scotia.
Is there anywhere where I / we can further research into the finding of Nova Scotia ??

I'm grateful for you all for taking the time to read my post, and with the possibility of you being able to help.
Best Regards JUST J

Hi,
Years 1870 to 1880.
Would like to know what the regulations would have been regarding a Church Marriage between these years. If one of the intended was illegitimately born. Through our families research we have not been able to find a birth record for my Great Grandfather's brother born supposedly October 1854. I take it he would be my Great GrandUncle ??  My Great Great Grandmother marries another surname named / family member in 1871 and then her son Church Marries in 1874.
Would the fact, we know he was born out of Marriage. Would the illegitimacy have not been allowed for the Church wedding to go ahead then in 1874.
His younger brother marry's in 1879, but he had a birth certificate.
The elder we are starting to believe in that his birth was not ever recorded??
Any information much appreciated, Regards JUST J

The Common Room / What was it that aroused your interest into your predecessors??
« on: Saturday 02 March 19 16:12 GMT (UK)  »
What did start your interest into wanting to discover about your family's history?
Was it that with the computer that you have paid ( ££££??) for, you would just try and see how far back you would get to?
Did your offspring get your interest into it whilst they had a school project on the subject, and yank you out of the regular being in a couch potato position?
What amount of information / records did you have to get you started and were other family members, willing to assist you??
What past happenings in you family would you have not liked to have been reminded of,?
Would the opening up of your families past cause it to be making other family members some concern?
Depending on how far back you have gone, would it be a concern to yourself and family, if you had come across a find that was not a pleasant finding?
Now that you have found the happening/s, how do you start to bring your research to an end, if other family members had not wanted you to continue?
Would you be prepared to let your families findings be brought into being a discussion forum openly?
We possibly all have some skeletons in the cupboards, and that we would like not to be reminded of?
Possibly, one major question to ask ourselves, do you now have doubts on why / what reason for starting you to expand your interest in your own family's history?

The Common Room / Working together and Brickwall response
« on: Sunday 24 February 19 16:31 GMT (UK)  »
We found that we had a Brickwall.
There's three of us who started working together on this Brickwall. We had no idea of what we were getting into. Our research / findings of where / what they would show us, our each and individual work was possibly over a two to three year period. To be working on this together would perhaps help in breaking it down. The Brickwall that one of us initially had, but had a connection with all three of us. It came from having a same named person who was born in the 1870's. Their families history / histories showed that they had lived in the same part of the country for some time and at the same time. We had very little on his or their past to go on. Only one name of a distant relation and of where she had lived. I in my line had a same named person but did not have any idea that we would be connected.

Unfortunately I / we have living relation's who still prefer us not to continue with our research and open up on our findings. They want us to still keep everything under wraps, as our predecessors, had wanted to do. I'm hoping I'm explaining this in an understandable way. I am trying to keep the explaining of our family history without offending anyone.

We all put together our finding's This is when we first thought that we may be distantly related, but we still needed more proof.
Continuing on with our research, our finding's, we did keep questioning them to ourselves.
A certain further two things showed up / happenings in our predecessors lives that we could possibly be right with our findings.
None of us would still not fully commit themselves on what we had found. We then decided to leave it alone at that point and put our researching of it on the back burner so to speak.
We did just need that something more positive with our findings. Time wise with us, this was about six to eight months before the 1911 census was to become available. We thought that there may?? be something in the 1911 Census to hopefully convince and put a stop to our research on this.
Results that came out of the 1911 Census were what was needed. In one household there were family members of Grandparents ,Nieces, Nephew's, Cousins, Uncle's and Aunt's, all at that time, all altogether in one house. These altogether, we had the proof of who they were and are. All three of us are distantly related. We now have closed our research on the certain family members, their past, and what they were trying to forget altogether. The living family who wanted us not to research or uncover anything of our past is now happy that we have stopped.???????

All three of us are sure we would have not been able to do this alone, some family knowledge, perseverance, patients and more than one set of eyes is what has helped us break this Brickwall. Another pair of eyes helping, or just looking. Its better still if the other person's are a distantly related researcher/s. My own thinking on family history is that you cannot do enough research to make sure you have the right person's. We only see what the records we have chosen show us, just check, make sure, you have the right records?.
Our ancestors deliberately altered the true facts to try and move on with their lives. Unfortunately it does seem that the altering of the facts did catch up with them, with very unhappy results.???

The computer and of what record's are available today are the main reasons of how we managed to solve some of our Brickwalls. I cannot leave out the help / knowledge and assistance that comes out from the Rootschat site, which is just amazing and WOW's me every time. It's a very rare occurrence to get a nil response for any posting that you may be requesting. Many thanks,
Happy Hunting, Best Regards to all, Just J
