Suffolk / Laura ALLARD have lost her in 1871?
« on: Saturday 22 April 06 21:09 BST (UK)  »
Laura Allard was born 1855 abt, St Clements Ipswich
the daughter of David Allard and Elizabeth Brighte(o)n,
i have her in 1861 living with her mother and her siblings
David (1859c), Eliza (1857c), Jane (1860c) and william (1853c)
Her father David is serving in the navy on HMS Meridian in Glamorgan, Wales.
by 1881 she is married to henry Goodchild and still living in Ipswich St Clements,(Stannard yard?)
but i can't find her in 1871,
I have found David(brother), Eliza and Jane all in the Ipswich Workhouse.
but no Laura :(
can anyone advise me where else i could look??????

I assume that David (father) and Elizabeth (mother ) are dec'd but have not found those records either ???

Suffolk / Bentley and Railway cottages
« on: Thursday 13 April 06 20:14 BST (UK)  »
How do i research a house history.

my daughter has just bought one of the railway cottages , they are (you've guessed  :D ) right by the railway line.

So far i have found that it was a junction and station  for the Ipswich to Colchester line and the Bentley to Hadleigh line.

I found the cottages listed on the 1901 census...........where can i go next ???
i thought about doing it as a house warming gift ;D

Does anyone know anything about the village, the railway or the cottages :D :D

Suffolk / GOODCHILDS of Alderton Suffolk
« on: Wednesday 22 March 06 23:08 GMT (UK)  »
i have so far traced my Goodchild family back to Alderton.... :D
Henryborn 1796ish married Elizabeth Goldsmith 30.6.1819 Alderton and had 6 children, Ann.Amy,Henry,Elizabeth,Hannah and Emma.............hannah and Emma were born in Ipswich, i have them on the 1851 census (henry was a widow by now)......i know ann married John lamb, and had at least 1 child Mary.........Hannah went into Ipswich workhouse and had a son Henry 1852 and then she died in 1853.....henry ended up in woodbridge workhouse he is my husband's gt,grandfather.

I think Henry senior was the son of Henry (another1!) who married mary Oxborough in Alderton 1795. and they had 4 children James, henry, Mary, and Robert.
I can't seem to find out much more about the family...........i know what happened to gt,grandfather Henry but that is all.
has anyone got any connections with this family. ???
