Yeah, I've seen the thread on Ancestry and I've commented on it but so far no reply. That's why I thought I'd try on here in case there's something new. Is there no other way to investigate the Church of Ireland records?

The index on www.irishgenealogy.ie shows a marriage in 1855 in Longford between Robert Wright and Margaret Leslie. Unfortunately they haven't got the original scan of this on the site yet, but they are working towards having all the records scanned. i think you should be able to view it on GRONI for a small fee. Charles Twaddle and Margaret McCord married in 1889 and their certificate is free to view at irishgenealogy.ie. John's father was Charles Twaddle, Farmer and Margaret's father was John McCord, Farmer.

GRONI? Sorry, not sure what that acronym stands for?

I found Charles Twaddle and John McCord too but I'm stuck as to for the mothers' names. There were no records of a birth registered for Margaret McCord so I'm unsure if I'm searching in the right county/religion. As far as I am aware, no member of my irish family were catholics but I may be wrong.

Ireland / Irish Ancestry struggles
« on: Wednesday 17 January 18 21:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm struggling to trace some of my Irish Ancestry as I'm stuck at some of my great grandparents. I know there is a slim chance of being able to trace them because of loss of some records and poor record keeping but this is worth a try anyway.

Basically, my paternal grandmother was born in County Longford, in a township called Creenagh, in 1924. She was named Muriel Violet Wright. Her parents were William Wright and Sarah Jane Twaddle. William was born in Co. Longford too, in 1871 to Robert Wright and Margaret Leslie. Sarah was born in Longford too (I think) in 1892 to John Twaddle and Margaret McCord. But beyond that, I'm stuck as there is not much information to go on.

Is there any other sites that specialise in irish genealogy that I can use to help or any other ways of finding info?

Thanks,
Fiona

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Cause of death from 1740s

 Thanks Peter,

I've never heard of "closing" being used to describe croup before. So that was rather interesting! I'd been looking for that page as well as I'd stumbled across it previously but somehow lost it!

Wonder if there are any more strange causes of death from that time? Hmm... I shall have to investigate.

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Here is the larger version. Hope this helps.

You're right, the C doesn't match the C in Chandler

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me to decipher the cause of death on this death record from 1745 for William Gilmour who died on 10th October 1745 aged 3? I think it may say "Closing"? But I've never heard of this cause of death being used before, unless i deciphered it wrong??

Have attached a copy of the said record too...

Thanks.

Firstly, Happy new year!

Wow.... THANK YOU SO MUCH. I hadn't really expected this much to be revealed and it has really helped me in my research into Stewart ancestry.

It would appear that both Agnes and John had a short relationship before Rachel came along. But it seems that both John and James were on speaking terms, otherwise, John would not be named on his marriage record.

I've since discovered that John's parents were William Stewart and Jane Ramsay, and John's paternal grandparents were William Stewart and Cecilia Wishart. Also I have discovered that his paternal uncle was a bit of a tearaway and had been in prison before being deported to Australia. However, it would seems that I'm stuck on William Stewart Senior as I cannot find any information about his father. I have tried to follow the method of naming children after grandparents, fathers etc... But it seems to have been muddled up.

John was born in 1814 to William Stewart (b.1/9/1792) and Jane Ramsay (birth unknown). William was born to William Stewart Snr (b. about 1770) and Cecilia Wishart (b. between 1761 and 1770). Otherwise I'm at a dead end. Any more advice?

Thank you again!

Dumfriesshire / Stewart family of Moffat.

Hi,

I'm from Moffat and I've been tracing my ancestors from the Stewart Family tree as I'm a Stewart. I've gone as far back as to James Stewart who was born in Moffat in 1842 to Agnes Jackson and a John Stewart. As far as I know that Agnes and John were not married as the censuses and death record for Agnes show her as a spinster/single. But I'm really stuck at John Stewart as I have NO IDEA who he is. All I know about him is from James's Baptism record. Can anyone help me as I'm a relative beginner at genealogy and I'm not sure what to do next? I've attached a copy of the said baptism record for your interest.

Thanks.
