Well it all fits in the sense that she wasn't there in 1841, so it could have been her as the servant. Proving it will be a job!!

We'd need to find John as a Slater. Perhaps in later censuses or in the christenings to be sure, they sometime noted the father's occ in the christenings.

John the slater in '51 and '61 I suppose. it's all a bit tenuous, but it could be true!

And he's an Ag Lab so no obvious connection there.

And if you think this is bad, I'll set you an Eveson puzzle in Southwark. All my relatives madden me  >:(

I think I just need to ponder this a bit. try to find another approach or a bit more info somehow. I'd hoped the marriage might open things up a bit, but it's not enough.

True. A wild punt because the name is right and the area is right. Clutching at straws!

True. Digging in more notes.

Mary Anne Piper, 26 Sep 1824,  Assington, Suffolk, parents John and Maria.

The "link" there is that that's Samuel York's area.

Worth a look in 1841 to try to find a John Piper living with a Maria possibly.

Yes that is interesting, but not much info on the death certs usually. We could start speculating about the name John Henry, try for a John Henry Piper as the father's full name would be one guess!

I'm asking some relatives of Samuel Smith/Mary Ann Piper if they ever found him in the 1841 Census. In the MC he's a labourer, there might be more info in the Census, you never know.

If it turns out that Samuel Smith was also in the minerals industry, I'd accept that as enough proof...

Might be worth looking for the Edges in 1851, see if they have a new servant. Something to ponder..

I think the search for John Piper the slater - if he exists at all - needs to go outside Middx!

This has been really interesting, and there are some possible leads there, but I think I've taken up enough of your valuable time!

Alan

There's a connection there - of sorts - as Samuel York was in the same business, but I don't think the dates tie up. It's something to bear in mind though. I need to look at that. Could be a coincidence.
