It could be her, but you're right, it doesn't move us on.

Who was with her at her address? There might be something there...?

There are several people researching the Yorks, I still have contacts in that group and will pass the "Slater" info back to them. The Yorks are a blooming minefield too. Most rellies are I suppose  ;D

Actually, I've only just picked up on the fact that she was a servant, but it's possibly important - I didn't know that five years ago either. Perhaps a search for Mary or Mary-Ann of that age, and look for servants and possible mis-transcriptions. I've been focussed on John the Slater, but for Mary-Ann we know the age (in theory) AND the occupation.

No, not as such, but it ws a long time ago. I might have loaded it up. but not as a Piper family tree.

On her first wedding, she was a servant, so living away from home? But probably close-by. That might be why the baptism is elusive as you say.

She was consistent in the two censuses, but yes it's a good point. My guess was she married without her parent's consent - hence no Piper as a witness? All pure specualtion of course.

Digging through all my notes now. I have a note that Emma and Mary-Ann (children) had adult baptisms at St Mary Lambeth on 26/9/1862.
LMA LBofLambeth 1862 Mar - 1864 Sep X038/011 index X102/058.
Both children from the first marriage

I don't have a current subscription, perhaps I should take one out. I was just wondering how much more info is available online as opposed to five years ago when I last looked seriously. I'm just dipping my toe in the genealogy water again.

I never found a baptism for Mary-Ann. I found one for Samuel York... Mary Ann was always a bit of a dead end for me.

Sorry that's me again - getting confused over the meaning of spinster. I have a headache, I'll use that as an excuse. Forget the third marriage!
