Ireland / Re: Parish Marriage doesn't show Parents names
« on: Monday 16 April 18 08:57 BST (UK)  »
The Church records do not have parents named.
Unsure which denomination the couple were.
Civil registration of Roman Catholic Marriages began in 1864. Fathers are named in Civil Registration.
Civil registration of Church of Ireland marriages were recorded from 1845.

Have you tried to find them on Griffiths Valuation. Start with address that was used for marriage.
Otherwise, you will have to trawl through lots of Baptisms to find parents names.Keep in mind that couple may have moved homes.

There are normally 5 times more birth baptisms than marriages.

Do you know in which month they both died.
Some countries did not register deaths in 1851
Civil Registration in Ireland started in 1864

My sister was born 10th April, same day as wedding of Maternal Aunt Mary. My Maternal Grandfather John died on 5th May, which happens to be a birthday for Maternal Aunt Kay

Jennifer Grey concentrated efforts on her maternal Great Grandfather who travelled from Russia to USA in 1907 with his siblings. Mother was deceased and father was in Brooklyn already.
I liked that she requested printouts of what was found on her ancestors.

Jennifer featured in film Dirty Dancing over 20 years ago.

The tiny print on newspapers must have annoyed everyone, especially with no artifical light.
I have a photograph of my grandfather taken c. 1940 reading newspaper in his doorway.
Electricity came in 1952 to his home.

Thank you both for your replies.  I guess that settles the discrepancy in name.
Where would I find a complete list of Gowran cemetery records.  I wonder if Patrick Cody and Mary Whelan/Phelan are buried there?  I can't find anything about them on ancestry, and being so far away........
