« on: Thursday 13 August 20 10:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I may be being very thick here. ???
But checking through my DNA names. I select  David Smith then the shared matches tab. All I seem to get is "Larkspur does not yet have any matches in common with David Smith." I have thousands of them - not David Smiths obviously  ::) Sorry not explaining this at all well.... Why so many  non connections please?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Illegitimate Father
« on: Saturday 20 June 20 14:50 BST (UK)  »
My friends father was illegitimate. She has had her DNA tested with Ancestry. She has a well researched tree. She  has one match at 220cM.(2nd to 3rd cousin) This woman's family are all from Somerset.  ( Another match at 59cM (4th to 6th cousin) has some of the same people) My friends maternal line on her fathers side is  from Leicestershire and her lines on her mothers side from Newcastle and Nottinghamshire. Will this automatically mean her missing paternal grandfather was from Somerset? Should she be checking out the "double" names on these two ladies tree's? Sorry if I am being very thick here.
Her half brother (same dad) is waiting for his dna results. Her cousin, dads half sisters child (same mother) is also just doing a test. Hopefully this will get her dads line. Wondering where to go from here?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / My Heritage DNA
« on: Thursday 14 May 20 11:27 BST (UK)  »
I decided to load my DNA to this site, after a friend said it had been very helpful to her. I also started to put a tree up.
I had my first E Mail 3 hours later. From a lady asking me about "Bloggs" and we were connected. I have no "Bloggs" in my tree.
Logging on this morning and looking at my very simple tree, my great grandmother has a little yellow box with "Discovery". Clicking on this I find "Here is the Discovery that can add 40 people to your family tree:"
So simply put, can I add 40 names to my tree, that I have not checked? So this really is build your tree instantly....
Probably can now see why my friend thought it was helpful! :o

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / "analyse the chromosome data"
« on: Thursday 16 April 20 15:31 BST (UK)  »
Having only just received my DNA results I am a newbie to this so please be gentle with me!
I have had a message from a "match" very low 9cM. Asking firstly to view my tree- its private. I replied telling him that were connected via A & B. I then get this reply

"Yes, that’s what Ancestry has suggested but as I can’t review your tree or analyse the chromosome data, I don’t know if that is our only match."

Now what chromosome data does he want to analyse from viewing my tree??

The Common Room / Adding DNA tree to Ancestry
« on: Tuesday 03 March 20 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
I started to make a DNA tree, as my friends father was illegitimate. I have compiled a tree of two of her 2-3rd cousins. How can I add her and her dad as random "floaters" on this tree? I realise it may not even be possible, but I am hoping...

Scotland / Oldscottish.com

Just wondering if anyone has used this site. It has a list of base born children, with their birth dates and then mothers names and the last column says "father found" or "find the father" If the father is found they charge £9.99 to view.
