New Zealand Completed Requests / Have you heard of my Dorothy aka Aunt Dolly?
« on: Sunday 23 July 06 04:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone.
My great grandmother Dorothy MILLIGAN(nee BARNES) immigrated to NZ c1923 with her 2 daughters Dorothy Cecilia and Mary, to be with the NZ soldier she married back in England in 1919.

They settled in a coal mining town named Waronui which is situated just outside Milton.
They then moved to Dunedin where her husband Robert Charles MILLIGAN worked as a gardener at Elrick Estate.
Dorothy May passed away in 1940.

I have found it very difficult to find information about her here in NZ and also in England.
I have her marriage and death certificates which only mention her father.

She appears once in the NZ electoral roll but thats it!
She had no will or anything.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Sincerely
Belinda

I am pretty sure the below picture is her.

Hi everyone,
I am trying to piece together my grandfathers early life but I'm not sure where to start.
He was Ronald Francis Goodin.
Born Jun 1913 in Dannevirke to Arthur and Elizabeth GOODIN.
I have no other info about him until 1940 when he enlists in the army.

How do I go about finding out where he went to school?

Any help is very much appreciated.

England / Dorothy May BARNES
« on: Wednesday 26 April 06 12:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone.
I have been searching for the history of Dorothy May BARNES' since I was 13 yrs old.
In that time I have found her fathers name and thats it.
She just doesn't seem to want to be found.

She gave birth to a daughter in 1918 at the boarding house at 19 Argyle St, St Pancras. The child's birth certificate had no father recorded but was said to be M.V BARNES who was a soldier and was killed in action before the child was born.

She married a NZ soldier at the St Pancras Registry Office in 1919. Her age was put as 26. Fathers name Charles BARNES commercial traveler.
I have her NZ death certificate. She died in 1940 at the age of 47.

Is there any other way of finding her without having to order birth certificates with the names Dorothy May BARNES in the hope one with the fathers name Charles George BARNES?

It is possible she owned a haberdashery in London.

Any help is very much appreciated.
Thank you.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Descendants of George ISHERWOOD
« on: Monday 24 April 06 01:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi all.
I am looking for descendants of George ISHERWOOD.
He was born c1815 in England.
He turns up again on his daughters marriage certificate.
She was Ellen ISHERWOOD born c1872 in Levuka, Fiji.
Mother: Ellen PEAGUM.

According to Georges death certificate he had the following children:
Male b: 1863
Female b:1864
Female b: 1868
Female b:1871
Female b: 1873
Male b: 1876
Male b: 1878
Male b:1882

But on his wife's death certificate there are only 2 males and a female recorded.

I know Ellen PEAGUM married a George GREEN in 1858.
They had a child Bridget GREEN born 10 NOv 1860 in Auckland.

They then disappear until Ellen ISHERWOODS 1892 marriage certificate.

I apologise if this confusing!!
But any help is very much appreciated.
