Australia / Re: National Archives of Australia Lookup-Robert Alexander ISHERWOOD
« on: Monday 04 September 23 01:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
My sincere apologies for the delay in responding. I wasn’t aware I had new replies to my posts!

I would not be surprised in the least if my Robert Isherwood and the Robert Isherwood in the newspapers were the same man!
His 2 sisters were “ladies of the night” in Auckland.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: No DNA matches on great-grandmothers line
« on: Sunday 03 September 23 02:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi Janelle
Many thanks for your reply.
I have had my dad tested with: ancestry, Myheritage, FTdna, livingdna and also uploaded to gedmatch.
His sister: Myheritage, FTdna, livingdna and uploaded to gedmatch.

I have no idea where she was born. Her life pre-1917 is completely unknown.
In the 1921 census she states she was born in Kensington, London.
Cornwall is quite high up in the ethnicities and I THINK that could be from her.

There has been a lot of research done by myself and others who have kindly looked for information about her.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / No DNA matches on great-grandmothers line
« on: Sunday 03 September 23 02:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
I have a mystery great-grandmother. Last year I decided to pay a DNA expert to delve into my dads ancestry dna matches to locate matches from her side.

The expert came to the final conclusion that there were 0 matches from that line.

Does anyone have any suggestions moving forward?
Said great-grandmother was born c1893.

Limerick / Re: Peagum family
« on: Sunday 13 November 22 00:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Alex,
I may be connected to you through John Pegum!
My 4x great grandfather was Thomas Pegum born c1802 in Limerick. He married Anne Quinlan c1822 and they had 3 children:
Mary Anne 1823
Alicia 1825
John 1827

Thomas was part of the 86th Regiment.
I am connected through his second marriage to Bridget Keane.
They had a daughter Ellen before coming to New Zealand as part of the Fencibles in 1847.

I have John in my tree as father to Emily on her Liverpool marriage certificate.

I look forward to hearing from you
Kind regards
Belinda

Has anyone had any experience locating records from the Radcliffe Infirmary?

I am hoping to find records from the 1940s.

Lanarkshire / Re: John CARMICHAEL

John Carmichael and Ellen McManus had at least
John, born 25 March 1855
Laurence, 4 February 1857 died 1861
Helen, 31 October 1859 died 1861
Catherine, 14 February 1862
Unnamed child, 21 November 1866
all born in Glasgow

There are also at least two children to John C and Ellen Jane McManus
Mary Ann, 15 October 1868
Hugh, 14 July 1871
both born in Dalry, Ayrshire but the 1881 census proves this to be a different couple with the same names.

1861 census: Saltmarket, Glasgow
John Carmichael, 47, old clothes dealer, born Ireland
Helen, 36, born Ireland
Mary, 8; John, 6; Laurence, 4; all born Glasgow.

Mary is probably the RC child baptised in Glasgow on 1 March 1853, parents John Carmichael and Helen, no surname recorded.

Take a look at John's 1855 birth certificate, which will tell you when and where John and Ellen were married.

Ellen is described as a widow in 1881, so John sr must have died between 1866 and 1881.

However John's occupation on Catherine's marriage certificate is cabinet maker, which is rather different from old clothes dealer or hairdresser. So I am not convinced that this is the right family.

Hi there,
Many thanks for your message!
Is it normal for a mothers maiden name to be so inaccurate? There is a huge difference between SLOAN/SHAW and McMANUS :)

Catherine had a son named Laurence so it's likely you have found the right family!!!

I had a bit of trouble finding Catherine on Census but at last came up with this 1881 Census.

Is this the one you have?

Ellen Carmichial 68 Head born Ireland
John Carmichial 25 Son Hairdresser born Glasgow
Catherine Carmichial   17 Daughter Darner Of Muslin born Glasgow***
Joseph Taffe 23   Boarder

1871 John is a Barber lodging elsewhere.

Trish :)

Hi Trish,
Many thanks for your reply.
I hadn't yet found Catherine in the 1881 census :)

Lanarkshire / John CARMICHAEL
« on: Friday 02 April 21 04:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
I am looking for information regarding John CARMICHAEL father of Catherine CARMICHAEL.
According to her marriage certificate Catherine was born 1863 to John CARMICHAEL and Ellen m.s SLOANE or SHAW( I has trouble deciphering the surname).

The only Catherine I can find was born to John CARMICHAEL and Ellen McMANUS and they married in 1866.

Catherine married James McKENZIE 24 November 1882 in the County of Lanark.

The Common Room / Cornelius MEYER-FENDERBOON
« on: Sunday 05 July 20 09:55 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping to find some information regarding Cornelius MEYER-FENDERBOON.
All I know is that he married an Ella CHEW(possibly in Australia) and they had one daughter Ella/Bonita/Karensa born 1925 also in Australia.

I don't know anything else about him.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
