Her death cert in 1855, aged 64, has Alexander as Widower and what looks like (Deserted )

Attached a snip for interpretation.

add - others on the page have deceased and not widow/widower.

Add2 - I've asked for handwriting help.

There's also a David Evans of 4th Royal Cornwall Local Militia in Madron in 1809

In the Pallot's Marriage index, The marriage is in Maldron and he is recorded as a Soldier. Both parties are 'of Penzance'

There used to be a very good article on Welsh Patronymics produced by Clwyd FHS. It doen't seem to be online now.

A section of Welsh Patronymics here:

https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/European_Patronymic_Surnames_-_International_Institute
Scroll to Wales

The patronymic would be David ap William  or David William. If it was a surname he would be David Phillip(s).

Yes, I believe it is, LH, I found it but wasn't sure if the OP had that info as she implied that she might have.

Not sure about 1851 - a few possibles.

Is it possible to look up his military record - Merionethshire Militia - ? Napoleonic. I don't have access to many service records.

Have you checked the mother's maiden name for any children that they had?
