Shropshire / Re: ROGERS and PRITCHARD around Oswestry
« on: Monday 06 February 06 22:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi again Deb

This is what I've got from my searches of Mary Rogers, b. Kinnerley

Two possibles from Kinnerley records:

21 Jul 1811 Mary, d. of Edward Rogers & Elizabeth (formerly Maddox), of K., grocer, b. 07 Mar 1811.

02 Aug 1810 Mary, d. of Millward Rogers & Elizabeth (formerley Lloyd), of Osbaston

Although I'm not sure. Mary was from a poor family I think. Millward and Elizabeth did have a daughter Elizabeth baptized Sept 1791.

Also, I've got recorded

25 Sep 1803 John, s. of Richard Rogers & Mary (formerly Rogers), of Dovaston, labourer, b. 04 Mar 1803.

I obviously thought that this couple were a possible set of parents. The problem is that Mary and Job married before 1837, so no marriage cert with a father's name.
Do you have the name of the witnesses to your Elizabeth's second marriage?

Thanks ever so for the Church list site Meliora.
I've done a thorough search on Ancestry and 1837online (before Ancestry added their Beta version) - ££££s I spent  ???
I have a few possibles from the IGI but needed the Churches to check. I think I might also try my BIVRI CDs for another search.
Why am I faced with common Welsh surnames everywhere I turn? Mine were bad enough but now my husband's ancestors have to be Evans ;D

Hi Deb
It was the Mary Rogers that I was really promoted. In my investigation of the Kinnerley registers there seemed to be only 2 Rogers families - one if I recally rightly had an Elizabeth as mother. When was Elizabeth Rogers born?

Hi
This maybe a bit late but I have an ancestor, Mary Rogers, b. Kinnerley around 1810. She married Job Parry in Rhosymedre. They lived at Pontyblew Forge, just over the border in Chirk.

Armed Forces / 4th Battalion, 60th Rifles - whereabouts 1870s
« on: Monday 06 February 06 15:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I'm trying to locate a John Henry Evans (b.c. 1851, Paddington) who married in 1873 at Winchester.  His occupation is given as Corporal, 4th Battalion, 60th Rifles (precurser to Royal Green Jackets?) and residence as Winchester Barracks. By 1876 he was a porter on the railways.
I can find nothing definite about him before 1873. I searched the Nat Archive site but I gather that unless he was pensioned or an officer there would be no record.
Does anyone have any ideas about a possible search.
Thanks

Thanks. I've had a look on the Army list but they seem to suggest that it's all at Kew. I've searched the Nat ARchive WO on-line records with no result. It seems that if he didn't have a pension and was not an officer, he would not be recorded during that period. :(
I've put a query on the London list about relevant Churches - he was born Willesden or Paddington (pretty close together) and I have the baptism of a John in St James, Paddington around the right time. :-\

Thanks Jan

A very interesting thought. I'll follow this up. But he was definitely an Evans - and Evans is definitely Welsh not Scots

Could someone please tell me which Churches a child was likely to have their baptisms registered in in the following instances:

William Evans b.c. 1820, Hendon
Ann(e) Brown b.c. 1828, Willesden
John Henry Evans b.c. 1851 Willesden or Paddington

I believe tha family lived in the Kilburn area in 1851

Hi
I've looked through the 100 odd pages for Denbigh and can't find your Robert lloyd :(
I did, however, fiond an Evan Lloyd, aged 60-64, a joiner, living at 109 Post Office Lane with wife Mary, 50-54; daughter Susan, 20-24 (not born county); John, 25-29, a paper binder and William, 12.
This might be his family, but cant be sure :-\
