Just found this thread after completing some research on John Daykins (VC). My husband's great great great Grandfather was James Daykins (b 1811 and m to Margaret Tait). We thought there would be a family connection and it was just finding that our James and John (John VC's grandfather) were brothers. Wish I had come across your post earlier lol!
Thanks for posting that John VC will be commemorated on 20th October. We will now get in touch with British Legion and make arrangements to be at the event along with other family members.

That's great news, I hope you are able to attend the event in Jedburgh, all the best,

Hi Sandra, thanks for your reply, You have the correct family here, Walter Daykins age 17yrs,
His Brother James moved to Leicester.

I was hoping Walter may have married and had children but it doesn't look like it.

Walter and James Daykins father William(1836-1900) was the cousin of John Daykins(1854-1924) This John Daykins was the father of Sgt John B Daykins.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you,

Hi Amanda, great to hear back from you. I’ve looked back a little further to when John Dodds came over from Ireland but have got stuck at that point. Zoe Birnie

Hi Zoe, my branch is from James born 1858, his sister Ann marrying John Michie, John was a gunner in WW1 I have in my notes, is that correct?
John, Ann, Christian who married a George Harrison and Martin all moved to the Newcastle area, their mother Agnes was living with dau Christian on the 1911 census and died there, do you have that info, ? James stayed in Hawick.
