Roxburghshire / Smith/Dove marriage.
« on: Wednesday 05 September 18 22:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folk's another long shot here, thank's to the good folk on Rootschat we have identified
my Gtx3 Grandfather John Smith was born in Scotland around 1795,now thank's to a family
tradition of giving the mother's maiden name as the middle name of the children tracing various
family lines has been made a lot easier, one name has eluded us which is Dove,my brother seems to
think there could be a link to Roxburgshire I wondered anyone has come across a Marriage of a
Smith/Dove which would have been the late 1700's?

Durham / Kate,John and Minnie Kirton Gateshead.
« on: Friday 20 April 18 12:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi folk's touched on in another posting these were my Garandmother (Sophia Ellen Kirton) .all three were
Last together in Tyne street Gateshead 1901 cencus but prior to the 1911 one something drastic must
have happened as the family were split up,My Grandmother was married to my Grandfather Robert Smith living in with her Grandmother in Rawling road Gateshead,Kate was in an orphanage in Tudhoe,Minnie was
a visitor in Felling with I believe her re-married mother(despite the fact her father was still alive an inmate
in Bensham workhouse)and John cannot be found,I've looked at the military record for John Kirton RAMC
on Ancestry and it mention's his sister Kate so I'msure it's him but after that I loose track of both.
There were so few Minnie Kirton's around I can sort of track
BDM's for nearly all of them but my Minnie I can't track after the 1911 Cencus just wonder if anyone
with a nose for searching can shed any light?
           TIA Steve Smith.

« on: Saturday 07 April 18 12:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi folk's,I wonder if yet again you can come up trump's on missing Family? My first one is
John Ford Smith, born Buckingham 1825,I have him from 1851-1901(Cencus) in Newcastle
to Gateshead ending up in 1901in St Joseph's Home Newcastle a pensioner,no indication of
his death and as his middle name was not always used difficult to trace a death(the curse of
the Smith name).Second is Robert Watson, born Gilling West c1826.I have Robert around the
region and found him in Benwell with his daughter Mary Ann Duke in the 1911 Cencus at a healthy
81 year's.again noluck with what happened to him.I wondered if anyone can help and assuming
they were buried in their last location's shed any light?

Hi Folk's you guy's have come up trumps everytime I've needed help so I wondered if you
might help with another dead end,my wife's Great Grandfather was George Rose born in Felling
in 1877/78 He is in the 1911 Cencus living in Hamsterley Colliery with his wife Margaret of three
year's with among other's his stepson Thomas Douwthwaite which gives us Margaret's maiden
name or perhap's previous marriage as I can't find any information for her either.
I have searched all the usual places but George is a mystery it is
possible that he was a pre WW1 soldier as he was with a regular battalion(2nd Northumberland
Fusilier's) very early in France he was wounded in 1915 and died in India in 1916.any help with either
George or Margaret would be appreciated.

Durham / Stanley Smith born gateshead 1902
« on: Sunday 01 April 18 23:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi folk's,Stanley was my Grandfather's youngest brother living in Rawling Road Gateshead
in the 1911 cencus aged 9.He's the only member of the family That we cannot find a trace
of,my father and his cousin were named after him both born in the early 1920's my father
alway's said  he was involved in some kind  of tragedy but never said it involved his death
if so I would imagine this would have occured between 1911 and 1922/3 I cannot find a death
anywhere that might be him just wondered if anyone had any suggestion's certainly I know my
father never met him despite knowing the rest of his uncles/aunts.

Buckinghamshire / John Smith born 1825 near Halton.
« on: Saturday 03 March 18 22:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi folk's,wondered if anyone could shed light on the family of my Gtx2 Grandfather John
Smith born at "World's end" which I believe is near Halton around 1825,we think his father
was also John and thank's to a tradition of using their wives maiden name as children's
middle names we presume his mother was called Ford, any info on either family would be appreciated.
John(Jr) married Lydia ann Robertson in Newcastle 1850.

England / George Robertson Newcastle upon Tyne c1820-40
« on: Saturday 03 March 18 22:40 GMT (UK)  »
Evening folk's another ancestor I can find almost nothing about is my Gtx3 Grandfather
George Robertson,I can guess there's a Scottish connection but all I know is that he lived
in Newcastle around pilgrim street and is listed in directories and a book as a bookbinder,
his two children were Baptised in all Saints church in the town in the 1820's one Lydia ann
was my Gtx2  a big help in finding this line of my family is that they used the maiden name
of their mother's as the middle name of their children,Lydia's second son was James Frazier
Smith so I checked marraiges and found a George Robertson marrying an ann Frasier in Ryton on tyne a couple of years before their first child Margaret was born around 1823,george "disappear's
around 1838,just wondered if any armchair detectives could shed any light on these people.

Durham / Sarah Ellen Wayman.
« on: Monday 26 February 18 23:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folk's among a few loose end's in my family history is my Gt Grandmother Sarah Ellen Kirton
(nee Wayman),She was born in 1866 in Newcastle and I have her in the 71 and 81 Cencus by then
a wardmistress in a Newcastle childrens home as the family were split up.In 1901 now married
and living in Gateshead to William John Kirton with four children Including my Grandmother.
Now something major must have happened a few years
later the family are gone by 1911 there is a William john Kirton inmate at Bensham hospital
(death recorded 1913) whom I'm sure was my Gt Grandfather,my Grandmother was in Gateshead
now married to Robert Smith and living with Sarah ellens Mother Sophie(now re-married to a Henry
Curtis) no sign at all of Sarah ellen,Now the strange part,Minnie Kirton my Grandmother's youngest
sister is with a Nellie and Robert Woolhouse in Felling,it looks to me if the cencus record has her as daughter ammended to visitor,I found a marriage 1908 in Newcastle for Sarah Elllen Wayman to Robert Woolhouse! Nellie Woolhouse's age in 1911 is correct for Sarah Ellen, anyone got any thought's on whats going on is there any other avenue's I can follow?
