I have recently obtained a copy of a bill of complaint from the National Archives in a case of intestacy where the complainant, a 12 year old girl, appears to allege that the administrator of the estate in question has been mis-handling the monies in the estate.
The case relates to the death of one Charles Daniel Hampton, of Amblecote, Worcestershire, who died in 1849 without leaving a will and left a "fortune". His next of kin is his brother Arthur's daughter Charlotte. Charlotte's mother Leah is described as in humble circumstances and not educated sufficiently to provide the proper maintenance and education for her daughter. Arthur died in 1843 aged 29.
The 4 images are far to large to post here (never mind possible copyright issues
) and are not available online. I am in the process of making a transcription, but there is a very large volume of text. The case raises a number of questions that seem to contradict the research I have already carried out, but that is for me to try sort out. However, in the images I've been provided with there seems to be no findings of the court in relation to the case, only three pages of the defendant's answers to the complainant's questions, a series of schedules and a list of documents that do not accompany the court proceedings. There also seems to be a reference to administration of the estate being granted to the defendant, which I have yet to find.
The National Archives entry is here:
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7936135where there is also this note
Details have been added from C 32/149, which also gives information about further process.
On the basis that getting the information from the other referenced source might be quite expensive, should I nevertheless try? I could also really use some help to understand properly the information contained in the proceedings, and some help also to try and find out what was the decision of the court in relation to this case. Any suggestions as to how I can take this forward, please?
