Taken Les Cedres  St Joseph de Solange Quebec.   In1861 they were both still living and I think it would have been taken circa 1860/1870.   They were my wifes 4 x grandparents.

Margaret was my grandmother born 1883 in Sunderland and married Arthur Johnson in 1910 at  St Branabas Church, Sunderland   She died in in 1921 's of cancer in Winnipeg and I never knew of her at all until I began genealogy.  My grandfather remarried and I thought the grandmother I knew was my dads genealogical mother and was very surprised when I learnt this.  This was photo was taken on their wedding day in 1910 and I apologize if  it is small but I wonder if it could be enlarged  slightly and a bit of colour added to it.

Thank you

Sussex Lookup Requests / John HOBBS marriages. Any advice or help appreciated
« on: Tuesday 12 June 18 01:23 BST (UK)  »
I am having problems figuring this out
John Hobbs was born 1810 in Abingdon Berkshire
When he became a adult he became a baker and remained that his life
All but one of his children were born in Sussex.

His first marriage:
John Hobbs m 30 May 1833 Jane Gibbins Great Faringdom, Berkshire

John and Jane had 5 children from 1834 to 1841

In 1841 Jane passes away (Jun qtr 1841 Horsham RD Vol 7 p 253)

In 1843 he has the first child with Mary Ann Worsfold born Woking Surrey circa 1814 (death unknown but past 1861)
They had 7 children and I know the last name for Mary Ann is right as I have a birth cert for one of her children and it gives her last name. John Hobbs is shown as a baker.
The second family is confirmed on the census but I cannot find a marriage anywhere nor does it appear any other family tree I have looked at.  On the 1861 census she is shown as living in Brighton Sussex  married Head and a needlewomen with the correct children.  John is nowhere to be seen.

RG9/600/25 p 44  Brighton Sussex
Mary Ann Hobbs Head 47 Mar Needlewoman b Woking, Surrey
Traton Hobbs
Antoniett Hobbs
Warden J Hobbs
Rueben Jas Hobbs
Julia Hobbs

Then a marriage  shows up for a third wife for John

I  find a John Hobbs Baker correct age born in in Abbingdon  living in Ifeld Sussex profession baker

Charlotte Greasley m 12 Oct 1859 John Hobbs (Widower)  Baker at St Mary, Battersea Wandsworth
Her father was Robert Burgess

On the 1861 census they are living together as married and one son from her first marriage and his profession is baker born Abingdon.

1.  I am looking for a marriage to Mary Ann or derivatives somewhere after 1841
or could they never have married.  I have contacted a few records offices with no luck

2.  What does anyone make of the third marriage when in 1861 his second wife was still alive and
he puts widower if its the same John Hobbs.
Did John desert his family and then fib about his marital status.

Any help appreciated

Best wishes from Canada

Berwickshire / Andrew Aitken born Berwickshire
« on: Friday 08 June 18 00:00 BST (UK)  »
Greetings from Canada.    I am stalled and hoping someone here can give advice or perhaps information.

Andrew Aitken  was born Aug 5, 1844 in Scotland and passed away Jun 30 1914 in Minto Manitoba Canada.  (No Birth cert found on line) It indicates on census Andrew came to Canada in 1845 with the Hoy family(1861 Canada Census)

It is stated on the death certificate that his parents were  John Aitken born  BERWICKSHIRE   and Isabell  Hoy and it appears they stayed in Scotland.

No record is found for John or Isabel in the Perth area of Ontario where Andrew and his family lived until they moved to Manitoba and I cannot find any record of John nor Isabel in Berwickshire .

I found a few trees with Isabel Hoy marrying a Thomas Aitken in Berwickshire in the correct time period and living in Ontario but it appears this is a seperate family due to the fathers name and there is no supporting documentation or any date for such a marriage.

An help on who the parents of Andrew Aitken were and when and where they married most appreciated.

Northumberland / JOHNSON Henry -- Avenue Head on the road to Seaton Delval.
« on: Thursday 07 June 18 23:50 BST (UK)  »
Greetings from Winnipeg Canada

When I had research done on my surname Johnson before computers, the researchers I retained all came to the following entry and stopped there.

Name Thomas Johnson Gender Male Christening Date 15 Jul 1753 Christening Date (Original) 15 JUL 1753 Christening Place EARSDON BY NORTH SHIELDS,NORTHUMBERLAND,ENGLAND Father's Name Henry Johnson of The Avenue Head- " a farm on the road from Seaton Delaval"
(No other children found)
They then both had reached the end of the money I had gave them but one suggested Henry could of been from Alnwick but it was speculative.

I went to LDS and Ancestry records and as Thomas was christened 1753 and as I did not know of any other children I looked from 1720 to 1735 for a christening for Henry
I got the following possible christenings for my Henry
1724 Bamburgh Father Ralph
1724 Bamburgh Father Ralph
1720 Alnwick Father Henry
1733 Ovingham Father Ralph

I found two possible marriage for Henry
1751 Allendale Mary Mulcaster
1747 Eglingham Ann Bell

I looked at  his sonThomas who married Jane Archbold and  they named their children Reay , Mary, Anne, John,
Jane, Thomas, Edward, Henry and Mable.

I think I am at a dead end due to the common name and also due to the fact I dont know if there are more possible Henry's.

Any advice appreciated and thank you for all the help

Jim
