One Name Studies: A to G / DAVIES Dora, Lancashire/Manchester, All
« on: Monday 06 March 06 14:25 GMT (UK)  »
Are there any relatives out there of Dora Davies or anyone who knows of her and her family?  She was born in Withington on 16 June 1915.  She was at Swinton Industrial Schools from 1919 to 1923 and at Styal Cottage Homes in Cheshire from 1926.  She had twin brothers, Harry and Arthur.  Also, she had half brothers and/or half sisters but as yet have had no luck finding out who they are.

I am interested to know who she may have married (if married at all) and if she is still alive.

My great grandmother's name was Jessie Davies born on 31 October 1899 at 46 Carisbrook Street, Harpurhey, registration district Prestwich, sub district Blackley in the county of Manchester.

Details of three of her children are as follows:-

Dora Davies born on 16 June 1915 at 20 Nell Lane, Withington (workhouse), registration district Manchester, sub district Didsbury.

Arthur Davies (twin) born on 15 August 1919 at 123 Crescent Road, Crumpsall (workhouse), registration district Prestwich, sub district Cheetham in the County of Manchester.

Harry Davies (twin) born on 15 August 1919 at 123 Crescent Road, Crumpsall (workhouse), registration district Prestwich, sub district Cheetham in the County of Manchester.

The father's name is unknown.

Jessie Davies had more children with her partner but unfortunately, do not know any of their names and there are no relatives on my mother's side of the family who have any information.  I have no marriage name for Jessie Davies, that's if she married at all.

Is there anyone out there with links to these people

Jessie Davies was born on 31 October 1899 at 46 Carisbrook Street, Harpurhey, Manchester. She later lived at 53 Ardwick Green North, Manchester and her occupation was a pattern card maker. Jessie had a daughter called Dora Davies who was born on 16 June 1915 in Withington Workhouse. At that time, Jessie was living at 89 Westmoreland Street, Harpurhey. Jessie then had twins, Harry and Arthur Davies who were born on 15 August 1919 in Crumpsall Workhouse (123 Crescent Road, Manchester). All three children were put into Styal Cottage Homes, Cheshire. At that time, it was known that Jessie was living at 61 Albion Street, Queens Park, Harpurhey. She was later known to have been living with her partner with whom she had more children. The surname 'Clinton' may also be linked to them. Arthur Davies died on the HMS Auckland in 1941. If you think you are related, please get in touch.
