Darn, but that is a good find though! Glad it had a few job descriptions for his kids.

Hi Sandra,

Pretty sure that's them! Know they lived in Granville for sometime as well.

Hello again everyone! Hope you're all well.

I've been trying to dig a bit into my great grandfather Joseph Tierney and find out more about his father / grandfather. I realized I had the wrong information and kind of messed with my family tree a bit and this section has always stumped me the most since it never turned up any promising results, especially in a few reference sites such as familysearch. I'm looking to see if I can find out more about Joseph's father's father / mother in particular.

Here is some info on Joseph. He was born in Granville, New York around 1900 and died in SEP 1974 in Staten Island. He worked in the Works Progress Administration during the New Deal from what I was able to pull up. His wife's name was Marie A. Kurth.

His father's name is Michael J. (or F.) Tierney and was allegedly born in Ireland around SEP 1857 and died perhaps in 1952 in the Bronx. From my family's word of mouth, his wife's maiden name was either Mary or Maria Gleason. There was a Brennan showing up with those records, but they insist that isn't her, unless they're wrong?

If anyone would be able to assist and least help point in the right direction, I'd be grateful!

Thank you!

A couple more items from the Catholic registers (which are listed as Brewer Mills, but seem to have entries from the surrounding area as well, all shuffled together.  The individual pages are not labelled as to which church they belong to)

Marie Chapue
born 13 July 1853
bapt 18 Sept 1853
parents - Maxime Chapue  Marie Scott
Sponsors John Davis  Christianna (Naddew?)

Priscille Chapue
born 04 Mar 1854
bapt 10 Sept 1854
parents - Maxime Chapue  Marie Scott
sponsors Mathew O'Connor, Ann Smith

Burial:
Nov 19th 1879 in the cemetery of Brewers Mills was buried
the body of Maxime Chaput.  Died on 17th age 52 (cancer)
Wit. Michael Tierney and James Tierney

And I can't help but think this old forum post has to be about your great uncles/cousins:

Hey, sorry for the late reply, had a bit of a emergency I had to take care of u yesterday but saw the post. Thank you so much! This was really intriguing that with how you guys were able to pinpoint something so precise. Like a needle in the haystack, especially that genealogy post! I really appreciate the help you guys have given!

(insert curse words here)

No one knows how to spell their names!!!!

They ARE in the Catholic Registers! (still hunting for your grandma)

Name:    Levi Chapue
Baptism Age:    0
Event Type:    Baptism
Birth Date:    7 May 1861
Baptism Date:    14 Jul 1861
Baptism Place:    Ontario, Canada
Father:    Maxime Chapue
Mother:    Marie Scott

Haha trust me, I have found like 7 different variations of the spelling and its driven me up a wall for a while, hence why I held off on trying to drive deeper into her family. Chapue would probably be the best bet when I head down looking for Maxim's family, as thats probably the cloest to the French origin of the name.

I think I found some entries that might be them, under the spelling of Shoppee.   ::)

In the meantime, another Holy Cross burial that is very promising, mainly because the informant was a Dobbins:

Deceased:  Jennie Marie Storm
Born Canada, 08 July 1878
Father: Maximillian Shappee
Mother's name unknown.
Informant: Mrs. Dobbins 1702 S Yewdall St (which is the same address as the deceased)
DoD  27 Apr 1878

Ah oddly enough I did find that out, but didn't have her associated with my main tree.
Thank you for referencing that!

They weren't brilliant at writing back then, could be many abbreaviations for Maximillian  ;)

Sandra

Tell me about it haha. It'd solve so many issues with misspelling if we knew their distinct styles

This could be them. I think the Marvin is actually Maxim but hard to tell due to the cursive.

Just throwing this out there:

If Anna had a brother Michael, there is a death reg. for him, and he was also buried at Holy Cross in Philly.   His parents are noted as Maxim Shappee, and Mary Scott, both born Canada.   Informant was a brother Edward Shappee, and date of death was 05 Oct 1933.  Michael was born Canada, and was age 65.

I'm in a rush today, so I can't follow up if he is related, but I think he is worth looking into.

Hi there. First off, thank you for taking the time to assist, I appreciate it. I do not know of any of her siblings and was just basing off the fact that I know her Death Certificate had her father's name as Maximilian and she was always based as Canadian on census records. But that could be a strong lead! Alot of info seems to line up like city / father name and etc. So perhaps!
