Of course this now raises more questions.
I know that Mr Maggiora was in this country in 1944 (during the war) and after the war he travelled several times to New York and back.
Why would an Argentinian move to the UK during the war? Why would he need to have details of his naturalisation hidden? Is it because he was doing something which had a bearing on the war? Is this his real name? Could he be hiding from something that occurred in Argentina?
Any answers?.............

Wow, I am astonished and impressed. Thank you so much for your help. He was clearly Argentinian which might help in other directions too!
I am so pleased and will await the results of the F.o.I. request.
Regards.

Thank you again. It is ODD! His file is closed for 100 years. I have applied under the Freedom of Information Act to see it but I can't help speculating...............................
I think he had a connection with the USA and now wonder whether that is his real name. Also, after the war I imagine that Italians were not too popular in this country either. I just don't know. Anyway, thanks again.

Hello,
I am trying to find information on Luis S Maggiora who was apparently made a Naturalised British Citizen in 1949.
I don't know where to go, or look, for confirmation of this status.
Can you help or advise me please?
Thank you.

That is the sort of explanation I have been looking for - thank you very much. I had heard of the Old Contemptibles but know nothing about them. I wondered about his rank as I assumed that the second line was added later and yet showed that he was, as you say, reduced to the ranks. I don't suppose that there would be any record of why this occurred?
Anyway, thank you Newburychap for your help,
David
