Sorry Maddy, I made an error, John Coster should have read Joseph. In 1841 he was at Providence Place ( Costers were in and out of there for some 40 years), an ostler, born not county but likely City of London 1790's. Amondg-I don't know of a Frances Hannah.

Thanks that is the census she claims to be a widow and Mr Kerr shows up. Seems this is running parallel to where I want it to be. The key may be Joseph Coster b abt 1800, in the W/H 1849 being the brother of Joseph

Thanks, a bit more to clarify, the area is right, coach painter is fine as the Costers were involved in that trade  as builders and wheelwrights. I have tracked the Coster tree back to Joseph who died 1849, 1841 shows him and wife with kids from 1813-1838, Wife died in 1841 and he remarried in 1846 to a 61 year old so no kids there. his first3 daughters would be the right age to have Jane in 1846ish but no evidence to confirm

I can't find a Kerr/Coster marriage. I have found a Jane Coster widow on the 1881 in Little Church St. My Costers are all around that area so seems to be some link but I'm not convinced the 1881 is the mother shown on the baptism & GRO as having the same name as the child would imply unmarried

Frederick Coster was born Marylebone 30/12/1872, GRO shows his MMN as Coster. His baptism in 4/2/1873 gives mothers name as Jane. Frederick enlisted into the ASC (#T4 107872) 1915, discharged 1916 died of bronchitis 1921. I'm after Jane's parents or any siblings of Frederick.

What is your reference for William (and no other family?) to be at Short Street Marylebone, 1860?

he wasn't, but was in 1840. 1860 he died in Marylebone Union.

the 1840 birth with no forename is shown on GRO as male and fits in with the burial record of Joseph, The 1843 ties in with Mary Anne. Nancy also died close to birth as did James
