Caernarvonshire / Hugh Humphreys Evans
« on: Thursday 11 May 06 16:33 BST (UK)  »

Im trying to find out more information on my hubbys grt grandad

hugh humphreys evans born 1875 caernavon he married may meredith 9th march 1899 bedwellty monmouthshire.
his occupation is listed as Dramatic Artiste

I believe Hugh was named after his grandad Hugh Humphreys born 1817 who had a printing/publishing company in caernarvon.

i have them on all the census except hugh and may on 1901, their son is with mays mother sarah exton in gloucs  on the 1901 census.

would any historical society know of any info or if hugh evans was a famous actor

Shropshire / trying to find a grave without success
« on: Wednesday 26 April 06 18:23 BST (UK)  »

Ive spent the last 3 days going round in circles trying to find the grave of my grt grandmother,
she was born at crumps brook, cleobury mortimer 1879, married at ludlow in 1912 then her dead was registerd in kidderminster jan-mar quarter 1915

i have rung the kidderminster cemetary, they have no record for her there,

rung shropshire archives twice, first time i was told they could do a 10 min check but my best bet was to go and veiw records, the 2nd time i rang i was told their burial records only went up to 1912.

i then rang shrewsbury council they couldnt help

i rang 2 different departments at ludlow council their records start from 1914 but they didnt have hers
i then rang ludlow parish and was told if she wasnt a resident then she wouldnt have been buried there

the only place i havent tried is st marys church itself in cleobury, i dont know of any other cemetary other than where my grt grandad and his 2nd wife and my nan are buried and thats at melville chapel nr crumps brook, cleobury and she isnt there as far as i know as i have looked at all the inscriptions on the headstones.

can anyone else suggest where else i could look plz

no one inthe family know where she is buried as my nan and her siblings were only very young when their mum died.

Monmouthshire / hugh humphrey Evans Pontypool monmouth
« on: Saturday 22 April 06 16:37 BST (UK)  »

I received the birth Certificate for my hubbys grandad yesterday Donald archer Evans, i sort of guessed what his parents name would be as i found a marriage cert for a may meredith and Hugh humphrey evans for 1899 in bedwelty
now the problem i have is i have no information for Hugh Evans except for his occupation, on the birth cert it says he is a Dramatic artiste May registered the birth a month after Donald was born im guessing Hugh was away filming perhaps,  i cannot find Hugh on the census for 1891 or 1901 ( i think may had died by 1901) i believe donald had an older sister but they were both sent to live with different rellies when their mum died i just wanted to know what happened to hugh he may have remarried again in 1904.
ive tried searching for welsh actors but he may have used a different name
the address for them in 1900 was ashgrove cottage, george street, pontypool.

does anyone perhaps know of the actor.

thanking you

Hi I only joined this morning, been trying to trace my family tree now for the past month, found a relative in the process we share the same  gt gt grandad.
Now the problem is i thought i`d found the maiden name of my gt gt grandad and my 5th cousin said he hasnt been able to find records for her as the name i had got
this is where i need help, i found on the 1881 census ANN CHARLES b 1841 brierley hill staffs wife of THOMAS CHARLES CLEOBURY MORTIMER, SHROPS he is a COLLIER, and they have a number of children my gt grandad WALTER being one of them, now on another 1881 census i found an ANN CHARLES listed as visitor/daughter born in DUDLEY and  it listed her as a COLLIERS WIFE the head of house was an ANN BEVAN could this be her mother? her age was 50 in the 1881 census and Ann charles was 40 which means her mother was 10 when she had her( i think the age is wrong) but thats how i came to my conclusion that they could be related but wasnt sure if someone could be listed twice unless different areas did the census at different times.
please help, sorry it was long winded.
