Thank you for the replies. I also thought the person didn't like what he'd signed up for!! The document was a chance finding, so I might not have a clue what went on but it is a good record to find.

Hi, I don't know if anyone can enlighten me,I have just discovered a brother to my GGgrandfather had joined the RWF in 1890. I think it was 23rd Reg/Btn . What is puzzling me is on his attestation form Number 17 question asked if 'he' had received notice to sign up. I understand why men were given notice for WW1 and WW2, but what would the notice be for in 1890. The person in question seems to have paid £10 to be discharged on 4/10/1890 would this have been a normal thing to do? it is quite a puzzle to me.

Thank you for your helpMaxD, it was always going to be a very long shot as I haven't managed to obtain a correct birth certificate for Edward Williams due to his common name. But it is nice to know that indeed he does have a military connection out there somewhere.

The web site is Abergele and district commemorations 1915-2015 and search for David Williams. David Williams was brother to Edward Williams and we know his military history, but there is just a snippet of info regarding Edward was in the Welsh Guards. Edward was born Abergele 1884/5, son of John and Mary Williams. Mary died between 1881-1891 census and John died 1913, they were not listed on David Williams' military papers but Edward was. Edward was living at Glynwood Cottage, Foryd, Abergele in 1901 and 1911 census and thereafter until at least 1915 where my grandmother was born.

Hi,
My apologies if this is on the wrong board. I have just discovered a web site that mentioned that my Great Grandfather Edward Williams was in the Welsh Guards during WW1, we had no idea and have no clue as to where to start looking for any documentation if indeed there were any. I would be grateful for any tips.

Denbighshire / can't find burial of John Williams Foryd

Hi,
After finally finding the correct death certificate for my GGGrandfather John Williams who died 7th January 1913, I can't find a burial record anywhere for him. He died at Glynwood Cottage, Foryd. His second wife is buried in Bebington but there's no sign of John being buried there too. I can't think of any reason why there is no burial record of him. I would be grateful of any suggestions please.

Mary Roberts Married David Hughes in 1883. I will PM you further details. I have yesterday sent for Mary's sister Sephorah's birth certificate to confirm their mother's surname. Too many Mary Roberts born to order her certificate even going by baptism date
