Lancashire / Re: birth certificate - MELLOR
« on: Friday 17 March 06 00:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi kelly,
As some of the others suggest it is to do with a twin and it reads 12h 30m PM and is the time of birth, the stillborn angle could well be correct also.

Oddly enough I have a Mellor cerificate with the same note of time in 1839 but in Stretford, Manchester. (And I did find a twin sister for my Great Great Grandmother Jane in the birth registers.)

I wonder if it is a Mellor trait!!

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Burlington Arcade Business Records?
« on: Wednesday 15 March 06 00:45 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know of any kind of business records other than trade directories for the  Burlington Arcade in the 19th century?

I would like to know as my great great great grandfather Francis Xavier Bauer (German born) started a Bootmakers business in the arcade in the early 1840's. The business closed circa 1920 when my great great grandfather (also Francis Xavier!) and his brother either retired (they were 75 and 64 respectively) or they closed due to the anti german feeling at that time, I don't know which!

Any help would be gratefully recieved as I am at a bit of a brick wall with this! I don't seem to be able to find any sort of records any where I look. Help!

Regards

Derbyshire / Pub Licensee Records?
« on: Wednesday 15 March 06 00:25 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know how I could find out how long someone was a pub licensee for, other than in trade directories? My great great grandfather's brother Joseph Parker was licensee of the Queen's Head in Newhall in the 1860's and is shown as such on the 1861 census. Are there any other records that I could consult? He was by the way, from a family of miners!

Any help would be gratefully recieved and many thanks in advance.

  Regards

  David
