Who knows where 'Balgonie' actually is, though. There's still Balgonie Castle and nearby Milton and Coaltown of Balgonie, there was Balgonie Colliery near Thornton... I've never seen the name Balgonie on its own.

No one knows why it's called North Hall, it's a very important area, historically. It's an area of Markinch and is now known as North Hall Road.

Hi Terry, did any of your subsequent Laings move to Fife?

I didn't think they'd appreciate me going into their garden so I didn't bother. If I had seen someone I may have asked!

Thanks for those other headstones, I'll see if I have them on my tree.

While we're at it, do you have any KINNES/KINNIS/KINNESS anywhere in Fife? Other than in Markinch, I've been there.

Hi Norrie, do you have any inscriptions from St Mary's Churchyard down by the coast? It's technically still in East Wemyss.

I trundled through the big cemetery looking for OSTLER/HOSTLER and MALCOLM headstones but didn't find any. I was wondering if you found any and if not in the big one maybe in St Mary's?

I think George Kinnes was Scottish - it's a one-name study of mine and I do have several George Kinneses. Not sure which this one is, so I may order the marriage certificate to get his parents' names.

Thanks! Do you have any more information on him other than the marriage?

Ada Wrench   Married  Kinness in Sleaford 1937
Hi Fifer

I'm interested not in Ada Wrench but this 'Kinness' you mention. Was this a forename or a surname?
