Sussex Lookup Requests / Sussex marriage lookup - White
« on: Tuesday 20 May 08 12:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Can someone help me with a lookup of a possible marriage between Richard White and Ann (no idea of her maiden name) in Sussex ca 1757  - 1760 ?. They had four children baptized in Lingfield between 1759 - 1768, but there is no record of a marriage there.

Many thanks in advance,

/Ian Whyte

Hello,

I have a request for a lookup of Richard White in the parish Baptism records for Lingfield,  Surrey. He was born ca: 1730.

Richard White was my 5x Great Grand Father.

Many Thanks,

Ian Whyte.

Hello again,

I have a burrial record for a Mary White in Lingfield, 18 Jan 1758.

The date ties in well with the theory Richard White was married to Mary, had four children and when Mary died he had another four by Ann. It is unfortunate I can't find a record for a marrage between Richard White and Ann that would confirm this, but then again perhaps they never married ? It is possible he lived with Ann immediately after the death as he had four young children to support. I believe this was not uncommon at the time. Together they then had four more children.

To try and add some weight to this theory I was hoping a search through the Lingfield parish records would reveal that over the period the two sets of children were born. 1751-1757 & 1759-1768 there was only one Richard White in the right age group living in Lingfield. If a check of baptisms for Richard White in Lingfield in the approximate year range 1720 - 1730 only reveals one Richard that would be a good start. If the search turns up more than one it would also be useful of course, as it would indicate I am barking up the wrong tree.

Any thoughts or other ideas would be much appreciated.

Best Regards,

/Ian Whyte.

Hello,

I have traced my roots back to a Robert White, born in Lingfield in ca 1766 to a Richard and Ann White.

It appears Richard was originally married to a Mary (Knight) and together they had four children. When Mary died, Richard then had four more children with an Ann. (Don't know her surname yet).

I would be very gratefull if someone with access to the Lingfield parish records could look up Richard White and find out who his parents were. I guess he could have been born ca 1730.

Below are the baptism records for Richard and Mary / Ann's children.

Best Regards,

/Ian Whyte.

2 Dec 1751  - Ann d/o Richard & Mary
23 Sep 1753 -Elizabeth d/o Richard & Mary
27 Jul 1755 - Richard s/o Richard & Mary
11 Apr 1757 - Mary d/o Richard & Mary

14 Jan 1759 - Thomas s/o Richard & Ann
29 Mar 1761 - Edward s/o Richard & Ann
18 Sep 1763 - Susannah d/o Richard & Ann
30 Oct 1768 - Robert s/o Richard & Ann

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / 1841 census - lookup, White - Lingfield
« on: Tuesday 11 April 06 14:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am interested in any White's living in the Lingfield area in 1841.

Via the Sussex page I have found several ancestors who were living in
East Grinstead at the time. However some names I was expecting to see
appear to be missing.

Particularly a Robert White, born ca 1766 in Lingfield.

It appears they might well be covered by the Lingfield area, as my
clan seem to have lived in the boundary areas between Lingfield / East Grinstead.
(Wells Bottom Lane, Grinstead Common etc..)

I would really appreachate a look up in the 1841 Lingfield census to try and track
the others down.

Best Regards,

/Ian

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the tip. I will try posting on the Surrey page. I have always wondered
about the boundary between East Grinstead and Lingfield (and Sussex / Surrey for that matter), so thanks again for clearing that up.

I too have access to the Lingfield 1851 index, but not the one for 1841.

All the best,

/Ian

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. A couple more pieces of the big puzzle have fallen into place.

I was hoping your search would also turn up Robert White (Ann White's husband,
and father of John, James and William), but he appears to be absent. He does
reappear in the 1851 East Grinstead census though.

Thanks again and all the best,

/Ian

Hello,

I am researching my roots in the East Grinstead area of Sussex and would
be very grateful if someone with access to the 1841 census for East
Grinstead could look up the following names and list other family
members living at the same address:

Head:      Address:

John White   Wells Bottom Hermitage
James White   Grinstead Common
William White   Grinstead Common

John, James and William were brothers.

If by chance you find any other White families living in East Grinstead at
the time could you please list them also.

Many Thanks in advance,

/Ian Whyte.

Hello,

I am quite new to this site and I hope someone will be able to help with
my research.

I can trace my roots back to a Robert & Ann White. Robert was born
in Lingfield in 1766.

Together they had 8 children who were baptised in East Grinstead:

John, 11Aug 1799
Mary, 24 May 1801
James, 07 Nov 1802
Edward, 27 May 1804
William, 13 Oct 1805
Richard, 02 Jun 1811
Charles, 19 Sept 1813
Ann, 09 Aug 1820

I am interested in finding out who Roberts parents were and whether
he had any siblings.

I am also interested in finding out Ann's maiden name,
and where she and Robert were married.

I would be very grateful if someone could have a look into the
parish records for the Lingfield / East Grinstead areas.

Many Thanks,

Ian
