Hello,

Can someone help me with a look up for Richard White and Phoebe White in East Grinstead ? I think it took place sometime around 1866.

Many thanks,

/Ian

Hello,

In another post we have established I am related to Edward White and Susannah Roser, who were married in Lingfield on 12 April 1785 according to the Surrey Marriage Index (Thanks - kerryb).

We know Edward and Susannah had a son, Edward ca 1795, and I would like to know if they had any other children.

If anyone has access to the baptism records for the Lingfield / East Grinstead areas for this period I would be very grateful if you could look it up for me.

Best Regards,

/Ian

Sorry, I seem to have confused things a little here.
I'll start a new request that will hopefully clear things up.

Many thanks,

This is great news, thanks everybody for your help. Now my next question is did Edward White and Susannah Roser (married 1785) have any other children, other than Edward born ca 1795 ?

If anyone has access to the Surrey Baptism records for that time I would be very grateful if you could check for me please.

Best regards,

/Ian

Hello,

I am currently investigating Edward White (born ca 1795, in Lingfield) in my family tree.
Looking at the census records it looks like he married Harriet Cheal (born ca 1815)
And had two children together. (Emma ca 1835 and Phoebe ca 1847). However I wonder if there may have been any other siblings ?

Also the 20 year age difference between Edward and Harriet has me wondering whether Harriet might be Edwards second wife, and perhaps he might have some children from a previous marriage ? Is this something that I might be able to check out by cross referencing the burial and marriage records ?

Best regards,

/Ian

Hello,

I am looking for the baptism records for Edward White, born ca 1795 in Lingfield.
I believe his mother may have been a Susannah White, born ca 1761.
I would like to find out his fathers name and whether Edward had any siblings.

Many thanks,

/Ian

Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: Sussex marriage lookup - White

A couple of years back I managed to trace my roots back to Richard and Ann White in Lingfield. For the time being that's as far back as I have come. Since then I've made contact with some of the descendants of Richard and Mary White (maiden name Knight) also from Lingfield, and after cross referencing some dates I began to wonder if the Richard White in question was the same person.

Baptisms - Lingfield
2 Dec 1751 - Ann d/o Richard & Mary
23 Sep 1753 -Elizabeth d/o Richard & Mary
27 Jul 1755 - Richard s/o Richard & Mary
11 Apr 1757 - Mary d/o Richard & Mary

14 Jan 1759 - Thomas s/o Richard & Ann
29 Mar 1761 - Edward s/o Richard & Ann
18 Sep 1763 - Susannah d/o Richard & Ann
30 Oct 1768 - Robert s/o Richard & Ann

Burials - Lingfield
18 Jan 1758 - Mary White
9 Dec 1776 - Mary White

It is very tempting to believe that Richard's wife, Mary White (Knight) passed away on the 18 Jan 1758, and he later married (or lived with Ann) and had four more children. I've always thought there was a large concentration of White/Whyte's in the East Grinstead area and lately thought would be very interesting to try and link as many as possible together. If I could tie together Richard & Mary and Richard & Ann's children it would be a huge step to achieving that goal.

I don't really know where to go with either proving or disproving my theory. Perhaps it's not possible. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Best Regards,

/Ian

Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: Sussex marriage lookup - White

Hello Jane and Andrea,

Thanks for the information. After having no joy in finding a record of a marrage between Richard and Ann in Lingfield, Surrey (where their four children were baptized), I thought it might be wise to check out if they were married in Sussex. As you point out Andrea, Lingfield is very close to East Grinstead in Sussex and that's were most of Richard and Ann's descendants lived, right up to my father who was born there. I broke the tradition being born in Cuckfield and growing up in Handcross, before moving abroad to Sweden in the late 1980's.

I suppose it would be wise to broaden my search in Surrey too, to the parishes neighbouring Lingfield. Should I post a new request to the Surrey part of the forum ?

Many Thanks,

/Ian Whyte
