Thanks All
Sue - you have the right one. It is complicated by the fact that there was a father and son Christian.
I have a copy of Christians naturalisation certiication in 1863 but it is scant on details. But on closer inspection is has record book 3 page 34, so I assume there is more if I dig. Thaks for the hint majm. I will chase up the National ARchives and see what they can do for me.  ;D

I am following up a lead and trying to confirm what someone else wrote but I am having my doubts. Christian Devers and Wilhelmina Devers aka Minnie (nee Fritzer) had a son Christian and a daughter Alvena (b1858) in germany. All their remaining children from 1864 onwards were born in Australia. Christian is mentioned in newspapers in rutherford in 1862 so he was in Australia by then.  Christian was naturalised in 1863.
Any ideas anyone? I am not sure where to go from here.

Hi Wivenhoe
I know my Devers (Christian Devers who married Wilhelmine Frittzer) settled in Rutherford in Victoria, AUS and were butchers. I have a reasonable picture  of my direct line in Australia. Originally, Christian and Wilhelmina came from Salzgitter, Germany and I am tyring to get a better picture of this. I am stumped on their families in Germany but also when they came. It seems Christian came over around 1859 but I have found no shipping record ofthis. Supposingly Wilhelmina followed in 1863 on the Star of India with their first 2 children - Christian and Alvena - hence my interest here in translating this shipping record. Although the ages do not match up.

Thank you all. It raises a whole lot of new questions - like who are all the 6 passengers. The DEvers are mine but I don't know why they would be travelling with. Can anyone translate the names for me?

Just wondering what others think this says. I believe it is Devars or Devers but I am especially waning to check the first names.
thanks

Hi Ladies
CArole - I got the births and deaths of William and Betty snr  info off a geneology site. Unfortunately I myself have also not been able to back up.

Monica - yes I have seen this - probably on one of the family tree site - your message prompted me to have another look and  I found the other children (Mum Betty put down her married name and also used Elizabeth so it threw me). But I cannot find John b1809 at all.

Thank you ladies

I have also not been able to find William and BEtty Snr in the 1841 or 1851 either

Thanks Carole. I had a closer look ... maybe but there is also some things that make me think not. I know I am missing a child as Adam's (b1812) birth record says he was the 6th child and that James b1810 was the 5th child  - and it makes sense this missing child is the eldest, as William and Betty snr married in 1798 s but I only have their first child as William (b1803). So this brother "Adam"born around 1800 listed in the census record you found could be him. But if there was an older brother that survived, then why name another child by the same name in 1812? And if they followed the naming patterns, the first child should be called John.

My actual ancestor is their daughter Betty  or Elisabeth b1805. She married Thomas Scott and they migrated to Australia on the Moffatt in 1839.

I am looking for information on

William Armstrong (1779-1860) married Betty Elliot (1783-1848).
KNown children - 6 children - William (b1803), Betty or Elisabeth (b1805), Janet (b1807), James (b1810), Adam (b1812) (Adam was 6th child so missing one)

William as a Shepherd and all their children above were born at Binks near Teviothead registered Cavers Parish.

Does anyone know any details on Binks (which I assume was a farm) or this family.
