As part of a larger area of research I'm trying to locate details of this school which has been closed quite a while.
I know it existed in the 1950 / 1960's.
It had a Johnstone Bridge phone number I think.
Anyone any information please?

Thanks,

James.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Doncaster baptisms help please
« on: Saturday 18 August 07 10:22 BST (UK)  »
(From another list)

Hi,
I have successfully traced my ancestors back to Doncaster, but I need clarification and help with the parentage of Ann Nodder b.1740 & spouse William Hargreaves b 1739 both listed on the IGI as born and married in Doncaster.

From the IGI I have the following information:

Ann Nodder Born: Doncaster 1740 (Died 1800)
Marriage: Doncaster 1770
to:
William Hargreaves Born: Doncaster 1739 (Died 1809)

Children:
Ann b.1773
Elizabeth b.1774
John b.1776
+Twins:
Joseph & Jonathan b.1778

I have found Ann Nodder: Christened - 21st March 1744 Cathedral Saint Peter, Sheffield, Yorkshire.... born to parents : Isaac Nodder and Mary Stevenson, but I cannot find a birth for Ann Nodder in Doncaster or surrounding area.
Knowing how unreliable the IGI is for accuracy, I wondered if in fact my Ann Nodder was born in Sheffield and not Doncaster. I can find no birth record at all for William Hargreaves.
Could you be so kind as to check the baptism records in Doncaster for Ann Nodder, born in Doncaster around 1740-1744, and also for William Hargreaves for around the same period.

Hoping that someone can help.

Thanks,

James.

While researching families in Thurso, I came across a marriage that took place in The Gair Temperance Hotel - 1929. I wondered if any other Gair researcher knew of this hotel.

Kent / FREEMAN-HORNE AND STAPLEY
« on: Monday 16 July 07 22:57 BST (UK)  »
Just started researching a family - FREEMAN-HORNE with zilch to go on other than it appears to be from Kent, England.  I have no dates as yet.
Only other info is from LDS:
Dorothy Stapley (Disc #6 Pin #290310) married a Mr Freeman-Horne - (Compact Disc #6 Pin #290311).

My query originates from a 90+ year old who is not in possession of a Family History.

Has anyone come across this connection?

Thanks,

James.

The Lighter Side / Sorry - Off topic - or is it?
« on: Tuesday 03 July 07 08:51 BST (UK)  »
Couldn't resist this -

"How its done"

Judy, a professional genealogical researcher, discovered that Hillary Clinton's great-great uncle, Remus Rodham, a fellow lacking in character, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana.  He was hanged in 1889.  The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows.

On the back of the picture is this inscription:
"Remus Rodham; horse thief, sent to Territorial Prison 1885,  escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six  times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889."

Judy e-mailed Hillary Clinton @NY.Gov for comments.

Hillary's staff of professional image adjusters cropped Remus' picture, scanned it, enlarged the image, and edited it with image processing software, so that all that's seen is a head shot.   The accompanying biographical sketch read as follows:

"Remus Rodham was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory.  His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad.  Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to service at a government facility, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad.  In 1887, he was a key player in  a vital
investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the  platform upon which he was standing collapsed."

And  that's how it's  done.

(Really?)
