The Common Room / Missing Fathers!!
« on: Saturday 27 November 04 14:15 GMT (UK)  »
I have the exact same problem with two of my ancestors on different sides.

On their marriage certificates, their fathers name and occupation were given. But after intensive search by myself (and others), no trace of the fathers can be found whatsoever.

On obtaining their birth certificates, I found there was no father mentioned.

There is a possibility,I suppose that their father died before they were born - both were stated as dead on the marriage certificates. But more likely, they were born illigitamately (One certainly was, I have the parish records)

What I am wondering, is, are they likely to have 'made up' a father for the records? Has anyone else another suggestion?

On the birth certs, the mothers surname matches that of the child. On the marriage certs, the fathers surname is the same!!

Can anyone find out if my great grandmother Johanne Louise Gesine MEINECKE was in London in 1871.
She was living at 146 Royal Mint Street, Whitechapel according to records of St George's German Luthran Church when she married in 1874.

I would love to find out :-
1.Who she was living with - her parents were living in Hull in 1871 - maybe discover other relatives.
2. When did she come over from Germany - was she on the 1861 census (she was b. 1855, Bremen)
3. Where her parents on the 1861 census - Ludwig (louie) and Beta Meinecke.

Thank you
Gill

Thanks so much to Amy K for the 1871 information.
Is it too cheeky to ask if you could find out some more information regarding other ancestors ?

Robert FARNELL b.1829, Gilling, Yorkshire and his wife Hanna Maria b. 1829? Wiltshire?  I believe were living in Hull (or Sutton-on-Hull)

Is it possible to locate William TUTE b.? , or John William TUTE b.1857 Yorkshire
                                    Daniel ALMEY b.? (son Joseph b. c1856 Luddington,Yks)
                                    Any UFFINDELL  living in Hull

thank you again, gill

Can anyone helps knock down my brick wall?

My great grandfather John SMITH (I know! I Know! - I've actually THREE John Smiths in my tree!!)

Anyway, John SMITH was born in Huddersfield, 1851.
He married Hannah from Sheffield and their child, Cecily was b. 1879 in Sheffield. So I am assuming he married in Sheffield.

He is found on the 1881 and 1901 census, living in School Street, Cleckheaton.

How do I go about trying to find John SMITHs parents and wife's name. I,ve had no sucess whatsoever.

Any information anyone out there may have, would be gratefully received.

Can anyone expand as to where abouts in Wiltshire that may be, or how I can find out?

She married Robert FARNELL on Christmas day 1852, in Hull, Yorkshire. Her father was given as Daniel FORD on the marriage certificate.

But now I've Hit a brick wall.

Anyone have any information regarding the MEINECKE family from Bremen, Germany.
My great grandma Johanne Louise Meinecke married in Whitechapel, london in 1874 to Adolf Assert.
She married my greatgrandfather Frederick FROW in HUll, Yorkshire in 1889. They moved to Lincolnshire for a short time before returning to Hull.

Her parents Ludwig and Beta MEINECKE  were in Hull from at least 1871 to 1901, but witnessed  their daughters marriage in London.

I was wondering whether they came from Bremen to Hull or London, both I believe to be routes. Whether they came together, Johanne and her parents. But particularly, who was Johanne living with in london, prior to her marriage. Could give me other relatives. She was living at 146 Royal Mint Street, Whitechapel in 1874.

Any information anyone out there may have, would be gratefully received.
