Daughter Lavenia's birth shows father as John Todd, furnaceman.

I read that as a ? Merchant

Sorry, forgot to post link- think it's clearly Furnace Man.

The census was supposed to record the people actually in the household on a particular night so possibly the husband was elsewhere that night be wasn't recorded in that other location. Have you searched for the husband under just initials in case he was in an institution (hospital, gaol, etc.)?
Irish marriage certificates don't always record a father as deceased you you can't assume he was alive in 1902 except that his wife says she's married in 1901 (unless she didn't fill in the form correctly?).
If you want to provide more details (names, location, etc.) we can do some checking.

Interesting to hear mention of Ballynure as I did find a birth registration for an Annie McKinstry born in Ballynure (reply #84)-

Looks like we have to rule this one out. John McKinstry (d.1899), grocer/merchant, m.(1851) Elizabeth Hetherington. According to 1911 census there were 8 children (7 living).

Hello, I am Lucy Flynn great granddaughter of Richard and Elizabeth Flynn, grand daughter of Richard Flynn born 1902, daughter of Stephen Flynn - I am struggling to find a birth registration or birth certificate. They lived at 19 Philip St during the 1911 census and I understand lived on Upper Yellow Road until at least the 1940's. I have searched the https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/ but no luck - any help would be very much appreciated.  Thank you

For reference here's the 1911 census entry-
https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Waterford/Waterford_No__3_Urban/Philip_Street/673835/
Son Richard was age 7 in 1911 so born c1904 not 1902.

Here's the family in 1901-
https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Waterford/Waterford_Urban_No__3/May_Lane/1764912/

Elizabeth Christina's birth (she's their youngest child in 1911 census) gives mother's maiden name as Mernin which confirms marriage record-

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1899/10374/5777242.pdf (note groom's residence Lower Yellow Road)

Search with parents' surnames I can see births for Elizabeth (1901), David (1904), John (1905), Mary (1908), Elizabeth (1911) So, missing Thomas, Richard and Bridget (I can't find these 3 births registered).
