Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can you restore Edna please
« on: Monday 12 June 06 23:15 BST (UK)  »
This lady is my Mum's cousin, only found recently. Edna and her family have been absolutely wonderful in sharing information about my previously unknown family. I would appreciate your help in restoring a couple of photos she has been kind enough to send me and I'll  share them with her as an extra bonus.
Cheers
Sandra

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / my Dad, folded again!

Oh dear, it seems yet another fold in his pictorial life, but I suppose most emigrants had a 'box of photos'

Would appreciate any help in finding what happened to Horace Colonel Bradford, born 1850 Southwark, and Elizabeth Harris born 28th December 1851 Bermondsey. They married 22nd Dec 1872 at Southwark.
I have them in census to 1891, and their children - Horace Arthur, Albert William, Frederick C, in 1901- but there is no sign of the rest of the family in BMD or 1901 census.
I am missing Horace Colonel Bradford and Elizabeth Bradford and their children Elizabeth Grace Bradford, born 1883 at St Olave and Ernest Alfred Bradford, born 6th Oct 1887 and died 1951 (my grandfather, so I know he still existed till 1951!).
The men were all involved in the timber trade and had timber yards in the London area.
The only thing I know is that there must be a record in the 1901 census, or of their deaths somewhere, and until I have an idea, I can't order certificates.

I would really appreciate any help in 'unfolding' my Dad,  my Aunt and my Grandma. Taken in 1909.
Hope this works and that I've pressed the right buttons!
Thanks

Europe / GERMANY: van der velden from Nassau-completed
« on: Thursday 18 May 06 04:35 BST (UK)  »
My maternal GGrandfather came to London from Nassau (Germany)before his marriage at St Boniface German Catholic Church, 25th Oct 1868. He was a sugar baker then and presumably worked in one of the sugar factories in St George in the East. He was variously recorded as Gustave Vonderfelten, von der Velden, van der Velden, van den Delden. His father was Henri Vondefelten on the 1868 marriage certificate.
I have struck a real brickwall as I don't know how to locate where in Nassau he could have migrated from. As there were many sugar makers from Germany at this time, there may have been some definite plan for migration to this area of London in particular. (I have checked the sugar baker site online, but that doesn't help with point of origin. Does anyone have any suggestions at all?

My GGrandmother married my GGrandfather  after arriving in London in 1868, (Neither was there in 1861 it seems) it is possible that they knew each other in Nassau. Her father Johannes Kirschei and father's mother, Magdalena Hering, were also shown as born in Neustadt. Her grandfather was born in Hehne (also shows Hohne with an umlaut). Her mother Elisabeth Hommel and both Elisabeth's parents are shown as being born in Ailertchen. So maybe that might be another clue.
I do have information for them both, and their 11 children in census and other certificates after 1968, but would love to find more about his German background.
Any advice would be most appreciated
