Just returned from visiting my Father in Law and managed to acquire a couple of beautiful pictures of him and my late Mother in law in their younger days. Could you kind souls give them a clean and repair, not a lot needed doing but think they could both look better. If someone feels generous would love for the B&W one to be similarly tinted or the colour one to be made B&W so I can frame them sort of matching side by side. Many thanks.... JK

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / What was Ann HAYWARD's Maiden Name?
« on: Thursday 09 November 06 13:43 GMT (UK)  »
I am framing a 6 generation 'Ancestral Arc' for my parents for Christmas and now have just one missing surname! >:( Can anyone help me finish my quest? I am looking for the maiden name of Ann Hayward or perhaps Mary Ann Hayward. This is what I have so far;

HO107/piece1513/folio269/page48
Ann (c 1811 middlesex) and her husband William Hayward (c1809 cheshire), occupation Tailor are on the 1851 census in Holborn, St George the Matyr with children
Edward 1833,
Charles 1835
and Agnes 1848
and wifes Sister Sarah Hunter 1813.

RG9/piece112/folio120/page14
In 1861 I find Sarah Hunter, widow at 34 Phoneix Street in St Pancras with
Charles Hayward, son, Tailor (should be nephew!),
Agnes (now Hunter), daughter 1847,
Claria Hunter, niece 1855,
Henry Hunter, son 1853.

RG9/piece 173/folio98/page22
On the 1861 I also found a William Hayward 1809 Knutsford Cheshire with a Mary Ann Hayward 1810 but Sunderland Durham not Middlesex in Bloomsbury but with no other children!!  He is however a Tailor.

RG10/piece 227/folio75/page54
In 1871 Charles Hayward is the head in Stanmore Street St Pancras with wife Elizabeth,
Agnes Hunter 1846 cousin,
Clarice Hunter 1855, cousin
and Henry Hunter 1853, cousin.
So assume Sarah has died.

I have Charles and Elizabeth Haywards wedding certificate which confirms the Phoenix Street address. I also found 7 Hayward children including my Charles Samuel to a William and Mary Ann Hayward on St Pancras Pallots baptisms between 1827-1835 but can not find them on 1841 census!! The family occupation was Tailor and I know they were mainly from the St Pancras area, Charles Samuel went on to be tailor at St Pancras workhouse. I have been unable to find more and as it is all before the 1837 start of certification am beginning to think it is impossible. I have tried tracing the other children but am not getting anywhere. Any help ideas greatfully received.

US Lookup Requests / 1930 census lookup
« on: Tuesday 31 October 06 12:21 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone look up Sidney Grimshaw born 1882 London England on the 1930 USA census for me? He is in Ohio on the 1920 census with his son Cecil born 1906, Canada. I am mostly interested to see his marital status and or if his wife and son Cecil or daughter Edith are with him.

Technical Help / Wireless Nightmare
« on: Sunday 22 October 06 12:09 BST (UK)  »
Finally decided to go wireless yesterday, set up the router as per instructions and after a lot of huffing and puffing got both the pc and laptop connected to the internet. This morning however (having unplugged the router overnight) the damn thing seems to me  to be connected but wont open internet? The PPP light on the router isn't lit but the rest are. Can any clever IT buffs explain what has happened overnight??

Armed Forces / Mystery Soldiers
« on: Friday 13 October 06 00:47 BST (UK)  »
This photo is a mystery, it was with the possesions of an elderly relative when she died, we have no idea where or who it it is of or what connection they are, does anyone have any idea what type of regiment or body of men it may be of?? Only a couple of officers and the guests of honour seem to be British?

I would love to know where it was taken or who the soldiers might be regiment wise not personally ;).

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / Another Leighton Buzzard Lookup
« on: Monday 18 September 06 11:50 BST (UK)  »
Didn't want to hijack Dee's post on Leighton Buzzard so have started my own, but if possible I would love someone to have a look at my Grimshaw's in LB. No rush, just when time permits  ;)

I have Caleb Grimshaw born (I imagine) circa 1770-5 married to Hannah Perrott or Parrott October 1790 with children
Elizabeth 1791
William 1794
Caleb 1797

would love any further information on any other LB Grimshaw's, but especially Caleb's parents or related marriages especially for William who married an Elizabeth (surname unknown) around 1820 (?).
Cheers

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Blaby Parish Register
« on: Friday 15 September 06 10:56 BST (UK)  »
Is any kind person able to do a marriage look up for me?
I am searching for the marriage of Henry Pearce and Elizabeth Goodwin circa 1835, I have looked on the BMD records ie after 1837 and not found them. Their first child was born 1840 (that I know of).
Henry was a Sawyer born around 1811 in Hampshire and Elizabeth was born c1816 in Tilton. The first 3 children were all born Wigston Magna.
Thanks
JK
